it sounded like you have some solid thoughts on dimentio then! may u let me in on da secret knowledge that is ur interpretation of him?
hehe of course!!! >:3
dimentio... listen, this is the guy that shaped my ENTIRE taste in villains. dramatic? theatrical? over the top and a little bit off their rocker? mastermind pulling strings behind the scenes???
... and also kind of a pathetic failboss?
delightful 11/10 i love everything abt them
with this guy specifically, i like to think he's very skilled as a magician! dimension magics are complicated, yet he manages to transport not only himself but objects and OTHER PEOPLE on the regular??? that speaks to a lot of study and honing of skill! evidently he's made himself a large enough asset that bleck keeps him around despite how annoying and nosy he can be. there's respect there that he's garnered.
also! mans knows how to weasel his way into people's good graces! of course, if he doesn't watch himself, he falls out just as easily. his silver tongue is a double edged sword which he often stabs himself with on accident. he just doesn't know how to handle his own wit and can't hold back a comment for the life of him LKSDJF. wordplay is a must and a favorite and if he wasn't in the magic field he would be off writing riddles and poetry for sure >:3
he's EXTREMELY sharp, but sometimes his focus can zero in so completely he misses the obvious. it's not like he forgets other paths exist??? they just fall away completely if he's chosen one. got them blinders on mentally. if he's got an idea in his head there's very little (if anything) that can change it. he needs a very clear cut and LOUD wakeup call to get him to knock off whatever plot he's hatched, or drop whatever subject has snagged his interest.
despite how powerful and clever all this makes him, he's still not the best at casual socializing. mans doesnt know how to NOT be a drama king and if a situation calls for a delicate touch (and not a magical one- an emotional one) he has no clue how to handle it. fumbles that ball all the time, has no clue how to let people get close to him with how tightly he's woven his theatrical appearance. is there even anything left under that mask of his? who knows! not dimentio! don't worry about it go look at this shiny thing and leave him alone :)
#this feels very all over but i think thats just cuz ive got soup brain#anyway. hes super super cool but also a failboss and i love him#i've got a half baked backstory for him also? but i'm not sure how much of it i'd keep nowadays#silly awful man fun to mess with hehe#arty asks#dimentio#spm

King Magnifico: Reimagining A Good Baddie Into Disney Villain Excellence.
I did not plan on doing another post about King Magnifico but dammit, the man just compells me. Since I recently drafted a revision treatment for the story of Wish, dubbed The Fully Fulfilled Edition, and it got me thinking more about Magnifico and the iteration of the character that I envisioned for my version of Disney's sentimental centennial tale. I've covered the troubles with the finalized official Disney character enough times already; I feel like the handling of his character and execution of his role as the story's villain was like a basketball wobbling along the rim before falling through the basket rather than a straight slam dunk. He's easily the most well-realized, enticing, entertaining, and developed character of the whole picture, the only one who comes close to being three-dimensional. But even he could've been better. If all the kinks were to have been ironed out in him, what might that actually end up looking like in practice?
Note that for this undertaking, I did not want to super drastically alter Magnifico's character to the point where he'd become completely divorced from what we got in the film and just be Magnifico in name only. I make just enough expansions, alterations, and fixes necessary to turn what I find good enough into what I'd consider truly great.
For starters, his tragic origin story being told to us upfront right out the gate helps to clear the air early into the picture, when we've not yet met King Magnifico but are given the background information of the man who became King Magnifico, wed Queen Amaya, and built the kingdom of Rosas. In my take on the backstory, the young would be-King Magnifico's family lived in a harbor town, working slavishly on what's implied to be export and trade. It's said that one day the young man, wanting his family to be happier and have more time for him, made a wish upon a totem for his family's burdens to be lifted. Well, that ended up being a vague wish that in a way did come true, as the town was soon attacked by a band of greedy marauders. In the storybook images the town would be shown going up in green flames as young Magnifico takes a boat to survival. Unfortunately, the boat ended up getting wrecked landing on a desert island, and the story would tell us that the youth lost everything he had in the wreck...even though he'd clearly be holding onto something in the accompanying picture. It is then said that Magnifico understood well the value and the danger a wish can hold, which inspired him to learn the arts of sorcery and magic that can extract a heart's deepest and most precious wish as a tangible substance held within a magic orb. Eventually he and the loyal wife he'd married built a great kingdom on that very island Magnifico had landed on, the kingdom of Rosas, where the citizens wishes are given, protected, and granted in the benign rule of Magnifico and Amaya, the "long lived" king and queen.
With that backstory and the reasons for why Magnifico founded Rosas and created the wish giving system established, the first in-universe look at the king we're given is in statues, in murals, in his face painted in various locations, even in the cookies Dahlia bakes. The face looks very kind, dignified, wisened, majestic, and above all gorgeously handsome. His presence is also subtly felt in what we'd be shown of the average Rosas citizens - some who are overly happy and enthused in a very cult-like manner and some who are only half-awake and half-heartedly trying to stay into it. This is heavily implicit as being a result of the system and society in Rosas, where the happier people are the ones who've had their wishes granted or have such good standing with the royals that they feel they're likely to have their wishes granted in the near future, while the lethargic ones are those who've given their wishes away, cannot remember what they even were to start with, and have been tirelessly waiting for when the time comes for Magnifico to grant them in a wish ceremony.
So then when we’re properly introduced to King Magnifico after all the build-up, it'd be immediately striking how the appearance of the man himself doesn't quite measure up to what we'd seen depicted in the kingdom's arts and crafts. We were told he's beloved by all, yet the man we meet here would come off very...Stephen Strange-ish. He'd be very smarmy, disgrunted, irrate and patronizing towards Asha, visibly or verbally condescending to her and treating her like a silly, hapless child who he doesn’t believe will attain the position. However, he is coming off of another interview that ended poorly, so we think maybe he's just in a sour mood and we shouldn't assume too badly of him. If we hold onto hope for his better nature to win out, it seems to pay off when he appears to empathize with Asha after she's told him of her deceased father and all the ways in which he'd inspired her to dream big and to love Rosas; it's almost like the king sees some of his younger self in Asha, and through that, he's able to recognize that she could be a good fit for the job of working for him as his apprentice, someone he can shape into being more like him and following his ways. He'd do the "I too suffered great loss at a young age due to the selfish wishes and actions of greedy thieves and built Rosas as a place where that would not happen" thing like in the movie, but not only do we understand that more due to having been given the whole backstory, it'd also be more noticeable just how...calculated it feels. Like, Magnifico might as well say "I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Y'know, my late son, Beau..."., y'know those shows of pseudo-empathy that political leaders love to do.
Once Asha has the job and returns to the castle for her first day of apprenticeship, King Magnifico would show us that oh no, this guy might actually be worse than we'd thought he was before. He's now in full Handsome Jack from Borderlands mode, acting more giddy and animated because he just loves his apprentice's first days where he can "dazzle them with all his splendor, and win over all of their love and devotion and appreciation for all his royal duties." And he just acts completely unkind and insensitive to Asha, making her do all sort of minor chores the way Lady Tremaine would do to Cinderella. He lets Asha into his sanctum of wishes, where he holds, juggles, balances and caresses some of the various wishes in a way that seems unsettlingly possessive, akin to how Mother Gothel stroked Rapunzel’s golden hair, and as he does he sings these words:
If happiness was a tangible thing, it would be you If you'd have told me the feeling you'd bring, I'd think it untrue And people search for a wonder like you all of their lives You still amaze me after all this time You pull me in like some kind of wind Mesmerized by the hold I'm in Leave you here, I don't wanna I wanna promise as one does I, I will protect you at all costs Keep you safe here in my arms I, I will protect you at all costs At all costs
Then the shoe drops. Magnifico reveals that he doesn't just collect these wishes to safeguard them and grant them in ceremonies: he uses the magical blessings cast upon the wishes as means of keeping his own magic powers charged every day, and it's also how he has sustained such slow aging and long living for himself and his wife. Yes, the royals feed off of the souls of their own subjects in order to keep their lifespan going, with the wishes extracted from the beautiful innermost part of those souls serving as convenient battery power for them. Unnerved as this makes Asha feel, the subject of a long life span naturally calls her almost 100 year old grandfather to mind, and she makes the dreaded "nepotism favor" request that the king consider granting Sabino’s wish at the ceremony. Magnifico, disappointed but not surprised, declines this request, rationalizing the wish could be too vague and might pose a threat to the kingdom. Asha then realizes Magnifico intends to never grant most of these wishes yet refuses to return the ungrantable wishes to their owners. She openly questions the king, telling him it's unreasonable of him to keep the most beautiful part of his subjects very selves from them if he truly has no inclination to ever grant them with his magic, and he should return those wishes to their owners so that they'll remember them and gain the drive to at least try to work towards fulfilling them themselves. Magnifico lashes out at her in fury ("I decide what everyone deserves!") and as consequence we get the ceremony where Magnifico pulls the spiteful fake-out with the wish granting just to shame and humiliate Asha, and let her know that her family's wishes will be kept by him forever, never to be granted. Also just barely noticable in the same scene would be that Magnifico reveals the wish of the person he grants it to and how it had been worded, but what he gives is notably a distorted alteration of the original wish. For all his high horsing about "be careful what you wish for, wishes worded too vaguely might go wrong when granted and that's too much of a danger risk", he himself exploits vaguely phrased wishes in order to twist them into something with benefits to the kingdom, his rule, and his image. For years, he's really only been using this system of wishes to make his own wishes come true, and has been routinely dishonest and hypocritical about it as he defrauds his people, committing theft by deception. What a self-obsessed bastard.
After Asha's made her wish to the stars and called Star down to Rosas, Magnifico and Amaya, having witnessed the wave of magic it brought, fear an unknown magic source that might threaten their kingdom and the hold they have on all the magic and wishes, but they find no answers in their books and scrolls to what this strange light might be. Magnifico starts acting furiously paranoid, remarking about how much he hates craven thieves and traitors. Due to how things went over with Asha, she is his primary suspect who he fears is now out to usurp his power and might not even be acting alone. As he starts to be overcome by desperation, Magnifico turns to his tome of forbidden dark magic and goes to unseal it. Fortunately for him, Amaya remains level-headed and is able to talk him out of it, to which he gives a very transparently half-hearted "thanks", followed by the "I am a handsome king" bit when Amaya tells him that, as they cannot baselessly accuse and arrest Asha for treason, they use the people’s love of him as their monarch to get them to reach the truth for them.
Of course, during the briefing with the public, people start asking how and why their wishes might now be in danger, which leads to questions about why Magnifico established the system the way that he did, which leads to deeper questioning such as why everything in Rosas is so tailored towards the king despite his role being to protect and provide for the people - like, why does the king need to have his handsome face plastered everywhere? When everyone feels the next wave of magic from Star’s evolution, it proves definitively what Magnifico told them: that this magic didn’t come from him, and that only creates a sense of disillusionment among the people. A furious Magnifico warns of a traitor within the kingdom conspiring to use this magic to steal all wishes and topple the monarchy, who must be found and punished, and that a wish will be freely granted to anyone who identifies this person. Then he shuts the doors back into his castle, frantically pacing about and looking to see if the magic came from somewhere within. Visibly aggitated, Amaya tries to soothe her petulant husband urging him to calm his mind and cheer himself up by gazing at his reflection in the mirrored walls. Which leads to....
"This Is The Thanks I Get" (Revised version)!
In between the second chorus and the bridge, Magnifico walks in front of the forbidden magic tome and vocalizes that in his years long reign, he has been far too soft on his people, spoiling them into becoming greedy, entitled ingrates who are all no better than thieves, so he needs to harden his heart and exercise more power “for their own good”, to tighten his grip over Rosas and preserve his power. So he unseals the book, opens it up, and gains power from its corruptive influence. And he made sure to do this when his wife wasn't around to stop him from doing so. This was his choice. He wanted this. In his desperation to not let his power over Rosas slip from him, he turned to what he knew as wrong primarily for the convenience of it enabling him to shed anything within himself that was restraining him before, and to grant to him more destructive, awesome power to squash all dissent with. This is what takes him from "big jerk" to "true villain."
After being told by Simon that Asha was indeed responsible for Star's summoning and has been plotting against him, Magnifico goes to Asha's family's home and assaults Sabino and Sakina with magic that’s holding them down when Asha and Star return. Declaring he must arrest the whole family for both high treason and harboring a criminal, Magnifico also takes time to relish some cruelty towards Asha, not only stepping on Sabino's already broken lute in front of her but bringing out Sakina’s wish and using his new dark power to shatter it in his grip, making Sakina reel in agony as the energy from her wish, a sacred part of her soul, gets absorbed into Magnifico’s black magic. Realizing how much power he can claims from the wishes delights the vainglorious monarch, who says had he known this, he would've broken wishes ages ago! So now Magnifico has a singular goal: to absorb the magic of both Star and all the wishes in order to become an all-powerful tyrant, motivated purely by pride, spite, desire for retribution and control, and the power high he's on.
Forging his new dark magic scepter, Magnifico addresses the public once more, revealing the traitor to be Asha and Simon to be the one to sell her out under the promise of having his wish granted. But be careful what you wish for, Simon! Magnifico twists the wish once again ("to be the king’s greatest, bravest and most loyal knight"), this time using his new dark magic to bewitch and brainwash him into a magitech knight. Magnifico then puts out the reward of another wish granting ceremony for the wish of whichever of his subjects helps the knights capture Asha and Star, with the added threat that the longer it takes for them to be captured, the more wishes he will break so that no one may get their wishes granted in the end, which makes the masses erupt into carnage and division between the fearful but still adoring loyalists to the king, and those who see this is not right and want no part in it. To quell this disorder, Magnifico unleashes more magic, desecrating the area and putting lives at risk, prompting a distraught Amaya to suggest he reign himself in better, and to her surprise, Magnifico points his staff at her, telling her to never again second-guess him or give him orders or else. He then orders all dissenters to be rounded up and thrown in the dungeon. So it's pretty clear by now that Magnifico is far gone, and this time the needless "looking for a way to save Magnifico from the thrall of the dark magic only to learn it can't be done" plot point is omitted, as this Amaya knows from the get-go that once you open the book and read from it even once, your addiction to the power it grants is unbreakable.
At the climax of the story, King Magnifico ascends the castle’s tower, sucks the life out from every wish that has been released into the night sky through his sanctum's open ceiling, and absorbs it all, sending droves of people in the kingdom into agonizing pain, anguish and despair. With no wishes to charge himself with, he gleefully traps Star in his scepter to act as the new living magical battery for his power. He thanks Star and Asha for how they've challenged his rule, because if they hadn't, he'd not have ever learned how much more gratifying it was to take all that he wants rather than "pretend to care and lightly snack on the magic of those wishes only in desperate moments". Asha's attempts to stop him are easily overpowered, as he then KO's his wife with a magic blast for her betrayal, then uses his dark magic to block out the sky so that the citizens never again may wish upon stars, then creates magical chains from out of the ground that bind all the citizens in place, and when the knights rush to stop their mad king, he not only chains them too, but unleashes waves of dark magic that set Rosas ablaze with green fire, madly declaring that he will oppress the disspirited masses forevermore: "No more hope, no more dreams, no escape, no chance to rise up, no one to tell any tales, and no one to challenge me ever again! And I would gladly rather see my great kingdom burn and crumble to Rosas' soil than give up this awesome power I so majestically wield!"
What happens next...well, you all probably know that by now.
So that's Magnifico's progression as the villain in my revision of Wish, but there's one last tiny yet hugely significant touch I'd add to fully bring his character together. A little before the big climax, Amaya would make reference to the fact that sealing the forbidden black magic inside “that heirloom” was among the first fundamental cornerstones of Rosas, but Magnifico has now totally backtracked on that and betrayed his oath to his people and their wishes. Hearing the book called an "heirloom" and then looking back at the storybook images of Magnifico's origin story at the start of the film makes the two pieces click together. That tome of forbidden magic belonged to Magnifico's family, the marauders sought it out and opened it up, which is what actually set the town ablaze, Magnifico took it with him as he fled to the boat, and it was the only thing he had that survived the boat's wreckage onto the shores of what would become Rosas. Throughout the story, Magnifico would have lines expressing his disdain for "thieves", "traitors", "cowards", "ingrates", and "weaklings". ...But this did not really come from just his trauma with the thieves. It's because he felt as though he himself, as a youth, was all of those things. He was a thief who stole his family's book, he was a traitor for making that vague wish that brought the marauders there, he was a coward and an ingrate for fleeing and leaving his family to burn, and he was a weakling for lacking the power to stop any of that from occurring and get things under control. To us on the outside looking in, it's easy to see how irrational it is for Magnifico to blame himself like that and have such self-loathing for boyhood mistakes and things beyond his control that were not really his fault. But tragically, no one ever told him this, not even Amaya. So what drove Magnifico forward in life was a pathological need to change his self image, to become someone greater and more powerful than that thieving little coward, to assert himself as the height of perfection, someone who could be loved and who could love himself in turn. He needed to be a king, for back in the day, a king was considered the only flesh and blood mortal human on Earth close to or secondary in power to the divinity of God Himself, for they had "the divine right to rule", the mandate of Heaven. So not only could Magnifico be that, but his magical power, the extension of his life via the wishes, and the system for taking the secret hopes, dreams, and prayers of the commonfolk to protect and decide which among them to grant, could put him that much closer to being a god among men. That is the core of what King Magnifico wanted; to feel like he was God, so as to erase his own inner pain over the fallability of being human. He was for years perpetually feeding his own power and ego, and yet it was never going to be enough. And he became so enthralled in his own God-and-Savior Complex, in playing at being the highest power in all the land, that he became a greedy, immoral, disruptive and destabilizing individual who brings suffering to the lives and wishes of others, like he'd once been the victim of; he became the very threat to Rosas that he’d been so wary of. And so, he got rewarded as such a threat deserves.
Dammit, now I'm low-key pissed at Disney! Say the line, Peridot!

So I don't think I even talked about my little half-baked theory on Mimi's backstory, so I'm going to go ahead and post it on here lmao.
So, Mimi! We know her, she shape-shifts and and turns into a spider. What we all may or may not know about her is her backstory, or the lack of it anyway. When we talk to Carson at the Overthere Bar in Flopside, we get to hear many different stories and rumors from him, and Mimi has only a couple of rumors about her, and that's about it. It was said that she was either a Pixl experiment or a witch's accident, but Carson touched some more on the ladder. He noted that the rumors say that the witch was messing around with potions to figure out shape-shifting. He later requested Mario if he ever sees her to ask her for him. At first I thought he meant Mimi, but apparently in the Japanese version (I might be wrong) he meant the witch, which WOULD imply that Mario would get to meet her, or have met her already.
So, this IMMEDIATELY made me think of someone else who is not only a witch, but can also shape-shift...
Yes, her. Cackletta. I've noticed that when she shape-shifts, purple smoke floats around her, and it's the same thing with Mimi.
Strangely enough, it's almost the same magenta color, though it looks like it depends on the background/brightness. It's also worth mentioning that Mimi has gears inside her head, which can be seen both in her official artwork and when Mario flips during battle. This implies that she is either a robot, or a cyborg of some sort (I'm personally leaning towards the ladder because of how she was treated and referred to as throughout the game if I remember correctly). Fawful has made a bunch of machines for Cackletta and her plans. Even though Mimi was allegedly accidentally created by a witch, some things may have been done on her, perhaps either to keep her alive, or to enhance her abilities. Probably not all that important to mention, but both Prince Peasley and Mimi share the similar color palette. It seems like they also share some interests with money (Peasley being proud of his economy and Mimi "building" one during Chapter 2), though it could just be a coincidence. So, I think that Cackletta and Fawful probably have some connections with Mimi. Maybe she was created and experimented on, or probably even kidnapped and got into some potion accident. It could be part of why Queen Bean and Prince Peasley had beef with Cackletta and Fawful. I do have some ideas that Mimi was a part of the Royal family at some point, but that might be far fetched. Anyway, I might edit this when I have more ideas surrounding this. Again, it's more half-baked than anything :'>

Character Investment Advisory Update: End of the Rakuzaichi Arc
Hi void, it's time for lobotomy during the break week. Thank you as always for letting me yap into your gentle, ambivalent ear.
TL;DR: re-read chapters 18, 40, and 44 to be reminded of the set up for the next arc. Invest in Kamunabi characters; Kyoura performed better than expected, opinion changed for Soya. Questions remain about the worthiness of investing in certain types of Azami, Shiba, and Hakuri stock.
Post is quite long due to images and section spacing but individual character blurbs are pretty short (compared to the walls of text I usually post at least (´。_。`)).
OG Post - speculation and predictions made as of Ch. 39 (not required or recommended, honestly). Updated status under the cut.
Kunishige: safe (major) | UNCHANGED
Everyone's favorite dead DILF is only getting more and more relevant as time goes on, as expected. Expect a sharp increase in backstory and extra context as Chihiro joins the Kamunabi to learn more about him and the Magatsumi. Invest moderately and pray for disaster trio flashbacks of him, Shiba, and Azami doing some of the dumbest shit possible. At the same time, prepare for more emotional gut-punches because Chihiro's probably going to learn some very unpleasant truths.
Chihiro: safe (major) | UNCHANGED
My boy continues to astound and amaze every week. He's the MC -meaning we're stuck with him no matter what- so thank god he's so refreshing. A stoic critical thinker who adapts and takes calculated risks is a breath of fresh air. I've been reading WSJ series for a long time and while I love me my Ichigos, Dekus, Itadoris, and so on it's great to see something new. Might make a useless long rant about all the reasons why some day, who knows. Anyway I love him to pieces and will keep investing heavily. I trust whatever plan he's got brewing, no matter how half-baked it is as long as it involves keeping Hakuri by his side.
Is this the arc where he gets punished for winging things and trying to make a miracle, I wonder? All of the hope in the narrative is tied to Chihiro succeeding... if he errs it falters, possibly even dies if he screws up badly enough. We're riding high after the end of the Rakuzaichi arc and things will probably work out for the best this time as well, if I had to make a blind guess. But I'm ready and waiting to have my heart crushed into a fine paste too. Invest moderately in a complete success scenario.
Shiba: safe (major) | UNCHANGED
Look at him! We finally see him doing something onscreen and he's being a responsible, kindhearted adult! Still got a lot of mysteries around the exact nature of his sorcery ability but they can wait honestly. I'm way more interested in seeing these insights into his character little by little. Getting pretty strong "regretful adult trying to do right by the kids" vibes from him through the end of this arc and I'm here for them. War criminal or not, I trust you with these traumatized children Mr. Shiba; you're not perfect but you're doing your best. Maybe consider investing in hair dye stocks as well now that he's got two traumatized orphans with self-sacrificing tendencies to look after.
The big question on my mind right now is if he'll join back up with the Kamunabi or not. He could do it for Chihiro's sake I think, but he seems to be much, much happier acting as a free agent. There could also be some bad blood between him and the org that we don't know about yet. The next few chapters will give us a clear idea of what his role will be, so wait to see if Offscreen Sorcery stocks are still a safe investment or not.
To address the baby elephant in the room: yeah, Shiba can die. It's a revenge story and if John Hishaku thinks Chihiro's too soft then guess who's first up to be offed? That's right, the mentor/adoptive uncle figure. But I'm not gonna put stock into that right now. If we see Shiba training Hakuri to take over for him "just in case" followed by a backstory dump that leads into him reminiscing over his regrets then get a little worried. But he's fine for now.
Hishaku Sorcerer: risky (minor) | UNCHANGED
Still waiting for him to show up as more than an ominous scenery detail. He's probably going to be a mid-boss at best for Team Goldfish to put down in epic fashion, but don't discount his potential to dredge up trauma for Chihiro.
Hinao: safe (minor) | UNCHANGED
Still only going to be there for plot convenience and some downtime moments, but at least she's not at risk of dying or being totally written out. Low risk low reward. Hope she's charging a competitive babysitter's rate with hazard pay included.
Char: safe (minor) | UNCHANGED
Nothing bad is ever allowed to happen to her again, so for Char to remain safe in a series like this, the less time she spends on-screen during fights the better. She probably won't have much plot involvement going forward but at least we can count on her for some comic relief and heartfelt moments. Another low risk, low reward investment.
Sojo: inadvisable (minor) | UNCHANGED
He's dead as fuck but invest if you want to, I'm not your dad.
Oni Mask Sorcerer: inadvisable (minor) | UNCHANGED
His few remaining fans are eagerly awaiting him to appear after nearly 20 chapters of absence, but most readers don't expect to see him again. I will acknowledge his potential as a recurring background character or a secret boss but I won't bet on it. Not a lot anyway.
Azami: safe (minor) | VALUATION INCREASE
Azami's another one that's been absent for nearly 20 chapters now but it's a good time to invest. He's going to be a key player in the upcoming arc, I can feel it in my bones. Azami will most likely be our primary window into the politicking going on in the upper echelons of the organization while Chihiro deals with the rank and file directly. And if we get into Kunishige's backstory, he'll be involved there as well since he's an old friend, same as Shiba. I'm really looking forward for the story to dig into the difference in ethos between him and Shiba; why he stayed while the other was glad to leave.
The most interesting investment opportunity will be in the Traitor stocks- some folks are convinced that he must be the one who tipped off the Hishaku to get Kunishige murdered, but I'm not so sure about that. Hedge bets carefully around this one.
Ikuto: safe (minor) | VALUATION INCREASE
RIP these guys, jobbed too soon. Ikuto is alive at least and can show up. I won't speculate on the specifics of how or when he'll appear but it's fine to invest a little into his well-being. Because losing the lower half of his body is probably the worst thing that will happen to him for the rest of the story. Right?
Kazane: safe (minor) | VALUATION INCREASE
Alright! It's gonna be his time to shine! If Kazane gets the Hakuri treatment, investing in him will yield great emotional enrichment. I can't wait to see him clash with Chihiro to build up the payoff we've been waiting for since he ratted out Chihiro's existence to the Kamunabi. He'll probably play second fiddle to Hiyuki for extended parts, but he will still come back for more development or I'm seven toads in a trench coat.
As to the suffering stonks, while it's unknown if he's been through worse than Hakuri, pain isn't a competition in the first place. He's the one who can best relate to Chihiro's particular brand of trauma between the two of them though. So I'm excited to see a lot of him bouncing off of Chihiro and growing as a result. Even better if he can bounce off of Hakuri too.
There's some Kazane slander going on (in good fun) calling him the next Potential Man to compared to Hakuri's Potential Fulfilled status, but I believe in him. Chihiro's gonna save him too. Invest!
Kamunabi HQ Roundtable: safe (minor) | VALUATION UPGRADE
These guys are going to have different evaluations individually but as a group, they are a safe investment. They will be Doing Things and moving the plot above Chihiro's level while our protagonist tries to use them for his own ends. Some are sympathetic, some are neutral, and some are hostile to him. Very potent brew of personal and professional interests clashing here. Invest if you are a fan of faction politics and corrupt government arcs. (Me, this setup is made for me, and I am putting my whole being into this arc and the maneuvering these guys will be doing while also dealing with the Hishaku and Chihiro.)
Individuals will be evaluated once the arc proper is underway but I'm betting that these three will be the safest investments in terms of entertainment value and screen time:
They seem like the biggest fish in the org. Especially Mr. Beard and Mr. Prince Nez as we've had quite a few shots of them during the Meanwhile, at the Kamunabi HQ segments.
Current Wielders: safe (minor) | NEW
I didn't expect to get to the Kamunabi this quickly so I left them off the list last time. All five of these guys are under the Kamunabi's protection so we're bound to meet them, though Chihiro might not get to see Magatsumi's wielder until later on since he's imprisoned like some kind of malevolent spirit. Once we meet them it'll be easier to give them individual ratings but much like the HQ brass, they're safe to invest in as a group. They seem like an eclectic bunch personality-wise so I'm excited to meet and get to know them.
Hiyuki: safe (major) | UNCHANGED
Her, her, her!!! Lots of Hiyuki on the horizon! Invest freely! I think she'll be the focused Guest Character of this arc like Hakuri was for the Rakuzaichi. Seeing her be moved by Chihiro at the climax of the previous arc really makes me excited for what's next. Her backstory, her reasons for working with the Kamunabi, everything.
She's brash and outspoken but we haven't seen much of her actual thought process yet... what's going on in that gorgeous spaghetti-filled head of hers? Where is she on the sliding scale of friend<-->enemy? Will we get to see Spinal Column? I don't care if it's just as a practice match, I want Hiyuki/Tafuku vs. Chihiro/Hakuri round 2... ah, there's so much I'm excited for. Please don't step on me but do tell me what your deal is. And bicker more with Chihiro; the mid-battle storehouse bit was one of the best interactions he's had with another character so far.
Hakuri: safe (minor) | VALUATION UP
My blorbo! I'm so glad he's staying with Team Goldfish. Hakuri is safe to invest in... with an abundance of caution when it comes to his future prospects as a recurring character.
Hakuri doesn't need further development as a character, sadly, so I'm interested in how he'll be used going forward. It's safe to invest in him as a permanent ally of Chihiro's much like Shiba, Char, and Hinao but I would advise waiting to see what he's set up to do in the next arc before going all-in on his growth. If he's Chihiro's buddy at the Kamunabi HQ then by all means, go wild. But if he's going to be hanging back at the cafe then grab that liquor and down the whole bottle (responsibly). There's no in-between in my opinion; he's either genuinely a color-coded deuteragonist that will keep growing with Chihiro, or he's a Guest Star to be checked in on when he's useful for his abilities. I wish I could just relax and accept whatever comes but I don't have an anxiety disorder for nothing, y'know. So it goes for our favorites with late introductions and few significant ties to the larger narrative.
For now, Hakuri is safe and has the potential to find happiness. I hope he does it at Chihiro's side but I will try to spare myself from disappointment. Invest cautiously for now if you care about him continuing to be developed. And please pat me on the head for not writing a deep analysis on his character arc from start to finish (I'll probably do it anyway, but I really want a headpat).
Tafuku: safe (minor) | UNCHANGED
Wherever Hiyuki is, Tafuku will follow. He's a cool dude and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him. Tafuku is doing a stellar job of being the blue oni for Hiyuki and there's no sign of that changing anytime soon.
Please carry grumpy, tired Chihiro like a kid again I beg of you! Do it to Hiyuki too! And a bratty Kazane! Free piggyback rides for all the problem children!
Kyoura: inadvisable (minor) | VALUATION INCREASED
What a legend of an antagonist. I totally missed the mark by underestimating him in the original post. He's deader than dead (and hopefully rotting in hell) but man, he was absolutely incredible at the very end. It's too late to reap the benefits of investing in him but if dead abusive dads are your thing, go for it. He's not going to have presence in the story any more save to perhaps bother Chihiro and Hakuri in flashbacks, but hey, invest if you don't mind incurring a loss due to his overwhelming superiority as an arc villain.
Tenri: inadvisable (minor) | UNCHANGED
He's donezo but pour one out for this poor kid who never got a chance to live a normal life. Dead at about 16 years old because of his father's shortsightedness and shitty parenting techniques. Don't invest but do mourn who he could have been.
Soya: inadvisable (minor) | VALUATION DECREASED
Stay dead you fucking bastard. In hindsight, my original post wasn't harsh enough on you. I don't care if the wiki lists your status as "unknown"- you're dead to me. I will only accept you coming back via flashbacks to expand on Hakuri's backstory. Thank you for helping endear me to Hakuri but no one needs your "love" any more.
I don't think Soya will be back. At least I fucking hope not. He was in bad shape before Hakuri pressurized his guts, he was acknowledged as dead by Chihiro and Kyoura didn't deny it, and the framing in Ch. 43 leans super duper hard in to the "this guy is dead like his little bro" interpretation. And on top of all that a fucking building collapsed on him.
I hate the "twist" of villains surviving improbable odds... "But we didn't see the body! He didn't explode into giblets and a fine red mist! Someone could have whisked him out with a teleport ability and helped him him recuperate! Revival from beyond the grave with magic!" shouldn't be valid coping mantras, but they are thanks to cheap shock tactics in way too many works. Ugh. Anyway. Don't invest in this guy unless you like dead abusive brocons who only incur massive Ls.
Ice Lady: inadvisable (minor) | VALUATION UPGRADE
Another dead person who still has quite a large impact despite being six feet under.
She's probably going to continue showing up in Hakuri's memories as his motivation to keep saving people. I wouldn't expect to see as much of her now that we're probably done with the lion's share of Hakuri's development into a savior, but it also wouldn't be a surprise if he kept thinking back to her. He's going to be out there trying to prove to her that there's hope outside the cage. Rest in peace.
Mr. Inazuma (Yuu): inadvisable (minor) | UNCHANGED
Go home and live a happy life with your big sister, kid. May nothing bad ever happen to you guys again. But feel free to drop by the cafe to hang out with Char.
John Hishaku: safe (major) | UNCHANGED
The man continues to let his plans simmer and I am sitting here at the dinner table, napkin tucked and utensils in hand, wondering what the fuck is up with him. He's got a lot of work cut out for him to be as iconic as Kyoura or even Sojo but I have no doubts that he'll deliver. Being able to break Chihiro's stoicism without lifting a finger is pretty damn OP! Invest to fund his machinations, whatever they are.
Thank you as always, dear void. I hope your favorites get a ton of screen time and development in this arc or a later one! We'll survive the break weak together, Bachibros.
#kagurabachi#long post#Hakuri isn't a problem child and never has been but he can also have a piggyback ride if he's comfortable with it#Justice for Kazane is going to be real trust me

Just discovered ur post o66 au im literally so so obsessed have you got any other headcanons or notes?? I literally want to know everything about this au haha
Tbh this is possibly the most self indulgent of my aus. The other ones I'm like Woah wouldn't this be funny/interesting/neat? And this one I'm like. This is something I need in existence. I'm so glad it also makes other people mildly unhinged :)
So! I know I said in the tags of one post but here are the species for the characters I've figured out so far and mild backstories for them! I have a weird half-baked part in my drafts but ehhh that's for later.
Robin-- she's actually Zelosian, a human-passing sentient plant people. Essentially blind at night, chlorophyll for blood, and bright green eyes. She was the grand-padawan of the master Archivist Jocasta Nu (whom she bragged made far superior tea than Steve's great-Grandmaster, which could be said for nearly anyone in the temple), and enjoyed the anthropological media studies. During the Clone wars she and her as yet unnamed master assisted affected planets with knowledge and artifact preservation. They were not permanently assigned to a squadron of Clones as they were frequently in the temple etc. In her youth, she was assigned a mission to assist a planet's heir (Nancy) in documenting culturally significant places/artifacts that were under threat from extreme modernists. They ended up on the run and falling in love, a brief but passionate affair. With differing opinions on their responsibilities and duties to each other, themselves, and their peoples, they did not continue the romantic aspect of their relationship. At the time, Robin was figuring out where she wanted to be within the order, leaving her family and culture (and Steve) was never an option, while Nancy wanted to run away together, at least for a little while. They remained occasional penpals.
Steve-- he's Balosar (near-human with antennapalps on his head that assist in sensing vibrations(?) And can tuck into his scalp, as seen as the death-stick dealer in AotC) and was born on Corellia. (This is because I want him to have bloodstripes. I debated making Robin Corellian but she wasn't on the frontlines and would be unlikely to get bloodstripes) he was a bit of a rough and tumble Padawan, passionate and open with his affections. He'd been spoken to about his connection to Robin, but had proven himself able to let her go should it be necessary. During the war, Master Claudia was a general and he was her commander. Their Clone captain/commander was Clicks, who got his name from batch mates because of the tsk and clicking noses he made while thinking. He was playful and a smidge cocky, but cared deeply for his siblings and held a love for botany. Steve eventually decided that after the war, possibly after his knighthood trials he wanted to begin working in the creche.
Claudia -- she was a nautolan master Jedi, who was Steve's master. Her master was Mace Windu, either before or after Depa Bilaba. Steve was probably her second Padawan, but he threw unique challenges at her. She was actually the second master Steve had, the first, who had asked him to become his Padawan a bit young, at thirteen, had quickly grown frustrated with Steve and his affections for Robin, saying they were attached and very un-jedi, and attempted to forcefully remove the force bond that had formed between the two which distressed both Steve and Robin so much that other Jedi could feel it. Claudia had offered herself to finish Steve's training, and to work with him to understand the bonds he had with Robin and work on non-attachment. They were a formidable pair that tended to throw people off and were often underestimated with Steve's playboy charms and Claudia's motherly nature. She was killed when order 66 went out.
Dustin-- rodian (bald green guys with biiig black eyes that seem to have pinpricks of stars in them) he was a youngling at the time the Republic fell, but had already formed a bit of a bond with Steve and Claudia, and the force was nudging them together. Many suspected that Dustin would either be Claudia's Padawan after Steve or perhaps even Steve's first Padawan. I fortunately, after nightfall and escaping the Temple, Dustin blocked out many of the family he knew, including Steve and Claudia. When he escaped, Lucas' family helped him, having been long time friends with Claudia and knowing the Jedi would never betray the Republic.
El-- she is a human. she was kidnapped from the temple during Knightfall, and was in training to be an inquisitor until she decided to escape. She does not remember her birth name, but was going to be eleventh sister, so goes by El (admittedly my knowledge of the nth sister/brother is limited just go with this). At some point, she helps Hopper, a wookie who is just trying to get by after everything the empire did to Kashyyyk.
Eddie-- he is an Iridonian Zabrak, maybe one of his parents was human though because his hairline is much closer to his forehead than others. He was raised by his uncle Wayne, who was killed by the Empire for resisting. Eventually he was able to join the rebellion as a mechanic, which he quite likes. Somewhere along the way he met Chrissy, who quickly became his best friend.
Chrissy--a Twi'lek spy for the rebellion, her skin is a powdery pink. She assists the Freedom Trail, and often goes undercover. Her mother sold her into slavery, but she was taken under the wing of other enslaved twileks and was able to Free herself and began assisting others. One of her mentors helped her find the Rebellion where she is using her disarming personality to take down slavers and the Empire.

I didnt wanna harass your comments so ill ask here, I'd love to add Samson to my small growin collection of people's peeps in bg3 that I get to doodle randomly and with my own. But before I accidentally draw em in a way he wouldn't act, who's the boy?
I see The Good Doctor and can assume from that a bit, and don't worry if ya didnt think that much about it. I'm weird with a old dnd character of mine as my Tav so I think too much into Tavs and their stories and know not everyone does XD
That's so cool! I would be honored for Samson to be a part of that group and don't worry I've been working on his personality and backstory since before I had the game lmao
full warning I've never played D&D so stuff is probably gonna be but I did what I could with a basic map of Faerun and the internet lol
full name is Samson Silversten, high half elf bard, he/him, 31 y/o
he's a 6'4" beanpole with broad shoulders and a strong (well strong for 9 strength) back and upper arms; he's practically covered in light freckles and has heterochromia (his right eye is a rich brown and his left is a golden hazel)
he's demisexual homoromantic which is basically just he's only romantically attracted to men and can only be sexually attracted to someone he knows well and is good friends with, basically romantic feelings have to exist before he can feel remotely sexually attracted (I hope that made sense?)
the most self indulgent part of this character is that he's Irish (his human dad was) and in my head he sounds like Hozier, both speaking and singing
his preferred instrument is the violin but he can also play the lute
he's somewhere between lawful good and lawful neutral, basing most of his morals on the doctor's oath and code of ethics and trying so hard to avoid violence at all costs though he knows when it's necessary like with the goblins in Act 1
he's a bit of a hoarder; he keeps every weapon, article of clothing, tool, food and drink, and gold piece he finds, but he will happily toss all that aside to fill his inventory with any medicinal item, book, or magic artifact for Gale
at camp he can usually be found at his tent or by the lake engrossed in some necromantic tome or copying surgical illustrations from medical textbooks into his personal journal
he loves taking early morning swims before anyone else has woken up (he's shy lol)
he is soooooo autistic (as am I) and will often get frustrated by things he doesn't immediately understand, sometimes goes non-speaking for a bit if he's overstimulated (usually by mouth noises)
for a bard he's not particularly suave or charismatic, usually reserving flowery language for songs and poetry
his main passion is medicine, he wants to be a doctor so he can help anyone in need while also contributing to the progression of science, he also has an interest in necromancy but couldn't afford wizard tuition 😔
actually got all of his proper medical knowledge from the library and "borrowing" material from private institutions like Blackstaff (he actually did borrow them since he would break in again and return them after copying everything into his own journals)
his mom who was a sun elf taught him everything he knows about medicinal plants while his human dad taught him everything he knows about baking, although he can't cook for shit (thank god he marries Gale)
his other skills he picked up while working on a ship as a kid after his parents died include fishing, tying knots, navigating the stars, sailing, and swordfighting; he's especially good with a rapier
I can't reiterate enough how much he loves medicine and being a doctor he will help anyone in need of medical assistance like one time he wasted some salve and gauze on a rat in an alley cuz it was bleeding out from losing its foot; the rat lived lmao
he's very sweet and chooses to see the good in everyone, also fairly perceptive; Astarion didn't need to bite him for Sam to know he was a vampire he could tell as soon as they met but didn't say anything cuz it was Astarion's business to tell him
he gets flustered and shy very easily when people are obviously hitting on him, usually at a loss for words just goes beet red and wide eyed, tries everything he can to leave (Lae'zel: "I want to taste you" Samson: 🏃♂️💨)
I think that's about it sorry if it's a lot this isn't even the half of it lol
Thank you again for being interested in Samson! I appreciate you wanting to draw him and you've actually encouraged me to post some of the things I've written for him so I'll have to work on finishing those when I have a day off 💕

ooh, what’s The Charlatan’s Song?
So this is less exciting than most of my WIPs I think! (Although the title is a banger hahaha) It's a Wyll/Tav story.
So my Tav (Pimpernel) is based on a half-baked idea I've had for a D&D character I've never gotten to play. In the game I made her a halfling with the charlatan background, and she's a bard that claims to be a heroic figure from a minor noble house that was disowned after a torid love affair with a woman from a much more well-established house that was about to enter an arranged marriage. She dueled her love's fiancé and won (earning a scar on her cheek in the process) but was disowned because of the negative attention it brought her own house, and she now travels throughout the land saving people from their issues and then earning money through telling her tale in taverns.
It's all a lie, as the charlatan background indicates. Her family are farmers or ranchers and are quite poor. The scar on her cheek is from a simple work accident (one idea I had was it's an injury from a boar's tusk while she was hunting or protecting her family's livestock). Her parents were killed while on the road traveling to sell their wares and she's either the oldest or second oldest of a ton of kids, many of whom aren't adults yet, and since she was dissatisfied living out in the boonies she used it as an excuse to leave and finally live out an adventure like the books she loves. Another adult sibling of hers is now the parent figure for the rest of her siblings, and she sends a lot of the money she earns as a bard back to them. Oh, and originally I planned on her having the gambler background (which isn't an option in BG3)...because the other way she earns money is by cheating in games of chance and generally being a card shark. The real reason she moves around a lot isn't because she's always on the hunt for people to protect, it's because if she sticks around too long in one place she risks getting caught. She's seen a bit of combat because she lives on the road, but not NEARLY to the extent she claims to, she's low level.
So imagine my shock when I realize Wyll is ACTUALLY the person she claims to be--a true hero, who actually is the disowned child of a noble house. Didn't know his background at all until I started playing the game and was blown away by the coincidence once I got to Waukeen's Rest.
I originally intended to romance Astarion but fumbled that BADLY (she might be lying about being a hero but she still WANTS to be one, so of course she was constantly helping others and I did not read him well at all until I got to the scene with the blood merchant so he's constantly irritated with her despite constantly getting inspiration from her because they're both charlatans lol). And once Wyll started talking about enjoying to dance...I mean, she's a BARD HALFLING, of course she's going to bug him to dance with her, so it was pretty natural to fall into Wyll's romance instead. (This is also more or less how I started getting into Wyllstarion, since they were the characters I was interacting with the most.)
The thing is...obviously the game isn't set up to give me a chance to actually play out this whole elaborate backstory with Pimpernel pretending to be the type of person Wyll actually is, only to have to admit it later to him that she's been lying about who she is. It makes sense that I can't, how in the world would a game be able to account for that? The only way I could think of would be if they did something like what Bioware did with the backstories for Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect and Larian obviously wanted more open-ended characters for the players.
I really wished there was some way I could express what was going on with Pimpernel in the game, but I couldn't do it particularly well, so...I started trying to write it, and that's what A Charlatan's Song is.
“Oh Wyll, I never said she was a princess!” Pimpernel responded, in a tone that implied she very much was one. “Alas, it was quite a scandal. She loved me, but…well, if we had run off together, it would have damaged not only her reputation, but her family’s. So in the end, she refused me. And my family was quite mortified, and I’m one child of many, so it was easy to just…send me on my way, rather than keep me around as the family embarrassment.”
“I’m sorry. That must have been difficult.”
“Oh, no no, I’m well suited for a life on the road. I’ve found I fit in much better in a tavern than I do in a ballroom, as much as I enjoyed my life there.” She shrugged. “And well…now you know.”
Behind her there was a slow, mocking clap. Pimpernel turned to look over her shoulder at Astarion, who was looking at her with a fang-baring grin. “Bravo! Quite deftly told, as you expect from a bard. It almost sounds like something out of a romance novel!”
Pimpernel swallowed and did her best to maintain her composure. “It does, doesn’t it? But it’s all true, I’m afraid.”
“Oh, of course, of course.”
[...]
Now he was digging into the chinks of her armor. She had something to lose, and he had been revealed and stayed safe. He had a natural royal flush, and she’d already played all her best cards.
She could only hope he’d decide to keep her secrets, for now.
So the PROBLEM IS as interesting as it would be to actually get to play this out in game...I dunno how to make her actually interesting as a character on the page without just huuuuge amount of exposition dump (I deleted a lot from this post!!) and internal monologues, and especially since I'm pretty settled in the no-Tav discord I'm just not all that interested in writing about my OC over the established characters in the game. I also don't have a good ending (my constant problem lol), especially since I still need to actually beat the game, so...ehhh...this one will probably stay abandoned at this point. Ah, well.

Cero i am terribly sorry if your askbox continues to be flooded. If you want you don't gotta answer this but if you're able then i wanted to ask this;
if IW do end up making a Ghost spin off or what not, do you have any thoughts on what it could be about? do you think they'll follow a bit from his OG comics? i just hope if it's true they don't end up butchering it with some half baked cliche shit like "he had a gf and she got killed" and he's the way he is right now. Like don't get me wrong this is just one of those examples that im very accomodated with as it's not the first time someone has wrote a character like that. But i trust they won't, this is army and PTSD shit we are talking about so considering all the things they go through and the grey areas they work in, it's making a perfect sense as to why most of them avoid attachments and whatnot./
Sorry if this is a bit too loaded, i have a phobia from certain writers and i hope they do better.
Honestly I genuinely have no clue. In a way I hope they DON'T follow the old Ghost comics because I find them too extra, too over-the-top (even though this adjective does define Ghost), almost Marvel-like but in a way that in my opinion does not fit the (mostly) grounded atmosphere of MW. Emphasis on mostly, when you see what happens in 2009 mw2 (but it's the story itself, not the characters' past - and also is a brilliant game).
Like, it might not make much sense but even though crazy shit of the comics' level has a probability to happen in real life I don't want Ghost to have such an insane backstory. I'd rather have him be an example of someone with issues that are 50% due to his past eventually, but 50% due to the military itself. Because that also is a thing, and does not remove any 'charm' from the character. If anything, having a normal guy personal backstory VS becoming like he is bc of the military only would make him even more interesting imo. This is just my opinion and does not mean I invalidate anyone's take or preference on the subject
(I closed my askbox for a week so you just had a sixth sense for when I reopened it LMAO so I'll reply to you first) (* I still have headcanons requests waiting but I have no inspiration - I've had complicated weeks and I feel bad if ppl feel like I half-ass replies, hence why I closed my askbox I'm slowly getting back into things 👍)

~~~
Hoang's POV
"Ryder, would you stop messing with your brother while he's baking?!"
"Enrico! That didn't mean I was telling you to chuck butter at him!"
"And Sue! Will you...keep reading..."
My voice trails off as I see the youngest of the triplets tucked into his usual seat in the living room, reading over what looks like the new Percy Jackson books I got him yesterday. He just gives me a confused look, so I wave him off.
How am I supposed to get this place cleaned up with these kids? I'm lucky that I haven't been covered head-to-toe in baking supplies by now. (Which in practically a daily occurrence.)
Rubbing my temples, I walk over and take the spoon out of Enrico's hand as he goes to hit Ryder with it.
"That's enough of that. How many times have I told you two not to mess around in the kitchen? Especially when we have a guest coming over?"
No part of me is really mad at them, just tired at this point, though that could partially be due to Ryder giving me those guilty puppy-dog eyes. At-least my tone is enough to stop them.
"Sorry dad." They both say, Enrico rubbing the back of his neck, his brown curls covered in flour.
"It's alright." I sigh. Pulling them into me arms, I squeeze them both. "Just please get cleaned up, Enrico."
He nods his head in usual determination, and heads to the bathroom. I rub Ryder's golden locks and ask him if he can just sit with Sue and watch his shows for a bit. Thankfully he complies, so I set to finish off Enrico's baking.
After all of that is finally over, I notice that it's two o'clock. Shit! Okay, not a lot of time left, even more-so now that I actually am covered in flour. There really isn't a moment of calm in this house.
However, more than half of the chaos this week hasn't been the kids. Well...sort of. Not anything they did directly, anyway.
A couple months ago, I started seeing this guy called Lucius. During the day, I work at the Bell Bar a few blocks away. I've been doing so even before I met the kids and was surprised one night when this pale, tall, hulking form of a man, with grey hair and blue highlights, sat at the bar and openly flirted several hours.
I'll admit, I tried to be professional. I've had many many people come in and try to work their tricks on me in an attempt to get a free drink, cheap lay, or for some other reason.
But, after chatting to him and getting to see how genuinely charming, gentle (and okay, extremely hot!) he was, I was a goner. I accepted his offer to go back his after my shift was finished. And, we've been going out since.
There has always been one problem between us though, and he doesn't even know about it: That I'm a single father!
Not in the way that most people think. I don't have a tragic backstory where I was previously married, but then my wife got sick or something and passed, leaving me to raise our kids alone. (That would never work anyway, seeing as I've known I'm gay since I was around 13 or so.)
I can't say the same for the triplets. As, I found them in the system. A friend of mine, Raymond, works in that area, and informed me about them when we were catching up one weekend, as we hadn't seen each-other in a few months. It wasn't hard to decide what to do when he also told me they might be separated.
Now, I've never regretted doing what I did, these boys are the best part of my life. Even then though, not many people are exactly willing to get into relationships with people who are already parents.
I've tried telling Lucius about them a few times, but the words always got caught in my throat. Eventually, I decided the best way to go about doing it is just to introduce them flat out.
Leading to me inviting him over for the night and ending up having to shower off the excess of a cake. I pull a checkered, red cardigan over my shoulders, resting on the white t-shirt under it, and the back hitting my green, plaid skirt.
The pair of black convers are barely over my feet, when the doorbell rings. Rushing back out to the halls, I call Enrico to join his brothers in the living room. Then finally, I open the door.
"Hey you." Lucius says as soon as I see him. The sun is hitting the back of him, making his eyes and highlights shine. That usual soft smile is on his face.
I return the greeting, kissing him for a few moments after, and pull him inside. At this point I feel like I'm going to throw up. The fluttering in my chest from just seeing him is not mixing well with my nerves.
"You alright?" He squeezes my hand as we walk. "You seem a bit jumpy. If you're not comfortable with me being at your place then we can go somewhere else-
"No, it's not that! Well...sort of. I just...um...I have to show you something."
Here it goes I guess. There's no putting it off any longer. Taking in a deep breath, I bring him in to meet them.
Their eyes all flick to each-other at once. The kids in slight wonder at seeing this mysterious man who practically towers over all of us. (Or just a passive look from Sue from over his book.) And Lucius, who turns back to me in confusion.
"Um...Lucius, meet Enrico, Ryder and Sue. These are my kids."
As soon as the words have been squeaked out of my mouth, of-course Ryder bounces up out of his seat.
"You're Lucius?! The man dad has been blabbering on about for ages now. You're so tall! Why didn't he say that-"
And then he's off on another one of his tangents. I rub my temples again as he speaks, giving Lucius a sorry glance.
But, when I catch his eye, some of my anxiety starts to dissipate. As, he's actually chuckling, and crouching down to meet Ryder's height. It warms my heart a bit seeing it and I'm tempted to take a picture. I don't think I'll ever get over his whole "gentle giant" thing.
Lucius listens enthusiastically to him and answers all of his (many) questions.
Then soon enough, he is being dragged away to be shown Ryder's science project that he built last week. He grins at me as they go, though he has to duck a bit under the doorway to the bedroom.
And at that, I know I was worrying over nothing. Everything is going to be okay...
...That is, until I remember that the cake is still in the oven and the sprinklers go off. Guess there are worst first meetings.
Whoops I forgot to finish it and post it, here it is now
ok, let's get into it
Disclaimer, I have not seen the new movie or show, I couldn't even get through the entire trailer, it made me cringe so deep in my bones. I've started watching Schaffrillas' review of it, and I gave up like half way through anyway, deciding I can take a few of the tropes from it, and it needs a rewrite from scratch.
I'm also not gonna put it in the post as more than a few points, I don't have the time at the moment to figure out some actual dialogue, proper way of representing the themes I'm gonna put it in, or think of jokes.
so I present to you
Megamind and the woke propaganda
(it's a funny haha joke because I want to include a lot of "woke" themes in this re-write)
I'd say the plot of Megamind 2 (let's just leave it at that, it's good enough, it doesn't need no Doom Syndicate, that title is so bad) begins over a year after the events of the first movie. Over that time, not much happened. Metro man became Music man, he started publishing his music, and there's a bit of comedy about nobody being able to recognise him, even though he looks basically the same, just a parody of the superhero genre.
That's also an important point. Megamind was always a clever parody of the superhero genre, the same way Shrek is a parody of fairytale movies Disney makes. The new content we got from Megamind lacks that soul entirely, making it a simple superhero movie with some incredibly unfunny jokes, neither fully marketed towards children, nor adults. I want my version to be a continuation of what the first movie was, still holding the idea in mind, and definitely not ignoring some major plot points of it (like EKHEM megamind Vs the doom syndicate EKHEM did).
Roxanne went back to being a TV presenter, but now with the lack of action from Metro Man and Megamind, there isn't just as much important stuff to talk about. She becomes unsatisfied with her job, wanting to do something good for humanity.
Minion on the other hand starts exploring his identity. In his free time, since Megamind is mostly sat in the "evil lair" changing his old designs and creating new ones to help the city, Minion starts working in the donut shop. He is just used to working for someone and it brings him some form of comfort, as well as he discovers his love for baking. His work becomes his life, and he develops so much with baking, he basically takes over the place. During that time, now being the employer, not the employee, he realises he isn't a minion anymore. He is his own being. And he wants to call himself Chum, which I wanna keep, because the comedy in Minions being the more recognizable movie, and the name chum being both a pun on fish, and how he's Megamind's friend are iconic. We get a bit of trans issues shown, simply by Megamind's behaviour towards it. It's not simply shown and said that Chum is trans or whatever, but the phrases would ring a familiar bell to the trans community, like "You'll always be Minion to me", "I've always called you Minion, you can't expect me to now be able to change it" and stuff like that. We get a plotline how Chum and Megamind grow to be equals, and Megamind switches to calling him by his chosen name eventually.
Megamind's plotline, the most important one in the movie, BECAUSE IT'S ABOUT HIM, simply shows his struggles with fitting in society, that isn't just people in prison. There could be some autism parallels, and he'd be trying his best to understand how people work, but simply being unable to be like them, ending up excluded. That was a thing already mentioned in his backstory, and I'd love it to be explored in the sequel. He's an alien, he spent his childhood in prison, I know we had enough autism representation with aliens and robots, but it could be handled well.
I really want to explore more of the characters we were already shown, rather than putting like 15 new people into the story for no reason. I want to give them space to grow, and flesh them out properly.
I'd like to bring back the character of Bernard. He was already a character in the original, why won't we just expand him instead of giving us new marketable toys of some stupid (literally stupid, they were all so stupid) villains. He and Roxanne start bonding, since they're both so interested in debunking theories, research, basically detective work. Bernard was an absolute Megamind fan, and he knew his stuff, and Roxanne gives him a new perspective on things, when he got bored of Megamind's new good persona. They become good friends, and are really helping with pushing the plot forwards with figuring out what's going on behind the scenes. And Bernard being such a fangirl for Megamind, he must've been active on Reddit or something. He shows Roxanne the world of the internet, we get the new age stuff, and they start a podcast. We get Megamind becoming what Titan once was, an incel. Hey, people writing Megamind, we already started discussing the problem of incel behaviour, can't we continue it INSTEAD OF SOME NDISBDIDNWKDBBDNDJSBDJDBDBDISNSKFHEIBDID (ok, I'm getting emotional, sorry, I'll stop). The point is, Megamind gets really jealous and only seeing Metro Man's and Titan's treatment of women before, he is confused. He is acting up, and can't understand male and female friendship. In the end he learns, and actually gets redemption from his incel arc, instead of being locked up in prison like Hal (deserved in this case, but you know what I mean)
We need a new villain. And here I am to serve it to you. The main villain is some corporation guy, maybe from the news, whose marketing died down because of the lack of fighting between good and evil. Metro Man is no longer there to star in his ads, and he finds out how Titan even came to be. Using that idea, he starts creating villains and heros on his own (Hawkmoth from MLB almost) and using them for monetary gain. The city becomes an absolute mess, and when Bernard and Roxanne figure out the conspiracy, the team has to stop him and bring peace again.
I'm afraid it might get too "woke", with all the analogies to "woke" issues. But Megamind it's my story and I get to choose the themes (/ref to that meme with Link).
Let's not forget that the original Megamind movie was supposed to be a caricature of the superhero genre, so making marketable superheros would be an amazing meta joke and actual criticism of Disney, now owning Marvel, like Dreamworks always did.
The resolution could be simply erasing super hero bullshit from society. No more big bad villains, no more heros. Some people have superpowers, and they simply use them in their lives, like people able to fly working high up in the air, cleaning skyscraper windows from the outside, etc.. Megamind creates tech that makes life easier, Chum starts a chain of his own bakeries, Roxanne and Bernard love doing their true crime podcast, and Metro Man's music career goes further.
It would be a story about fitting in. Great for children and adults. It would be a story about being different, having issues, but still being able to find your people and use your weirdness for good. I feel like I could write so much more about it, but I might need to be institutionalised if I spend a second longer thinking about this whole shit show.
Maybe I've watched too many series and not enough movies and that's too much to fit in one hour and a half cinematic masterpiece. But who cares, they made a series anyway. I can make a series. FFS.
So, that's about what I thought of, I do not accept any criticism, this is my magnum opus and I will die on this hill (I'm kidding, I'd love to get all the constructive criticism you guys have, as well as your own ideas ;-; I need to talk to someone about this thing because I'm going insane)
I'm gonna rewrite Megamind VS The Doom Syndicate but make it actually good and I have an entire doc with ideas already and idk, does anyone even want to read that?
Julie and the Phantoms AU
What's going on y'all I've been enabled so now y'all get some half-baked angst!
Huge thanks to @we-are-inevitable for helping me finish this AU because it's been sitting on the back burner for literal months and I could never figure out all the details on my own.
CW: death, homophobia, terminal illness, emotional abuse
Okay, so! Here's the characters we're working with (they're not perfect stand-ins, this is just the general role they'll be fulfilling in the story)
Jack Kelly - Julie Molina
Racetrack Higgins - Rose Molina (he's Jack's younger brother tho)
Charlie Morris- Carlos Molina
Medda Larkin - Ray Molina
Spot Conlon - Flynn Taylor
David Jacobs - Luke Patterson
Sarah Jacobs - Alex Mercer
Albert DaSilva - Reggie Peters
Katherine Pulitzer - Willie
Joseph Pulitzer - Caleb Covington
Bryan Denton - Tia Victoria
Don't ask about Nick and Carrie, we don't talk about them, they've caused me so many problems in this AU. There's a version floating around in my brain with Spot and Race as Nick and Carrie. I've been through some things.
ANYWHO I have no idea how to structure this post because there is so much going on so we're just gonna start and hope for the best. I think we'll go by character and talk about where each of them is at the beginning of the story because I don't 100% know how everything fits together yet. Fingers crossed that this is somewhat comprehensible.
(Also, in case you haven't watched the show, Luke, Reggie, and Alex are all members of the band Sunset Curve, who died in 1995 before manifesting as ghosts in 2020. So when I'm talking about David, Sarah, Albert, and Les, their backstories take place in 1995)
Jack Kelly
Jack loves music, it’s basically his entire life. He spends all his free time out in the garage writing and playing songs with his little brother, Race. They would always talk about making it big one day and becoming a famous singing duo. But really what Jack loved was being able to share something special with his brother. He never felt closer to Race than when they were making music together. The two of them would sit side-by-side at the piano with their youngest brother, Charlie, and their adoptive mother, Medda, listening to them play and joining in when they knew the words. Those impromptu little concerts with the three people he loved most in the world were some of the happiest memories of Jack’s life.
Then Race got sick. Then Jack had to watch his fun-loving, goofy, energetic little brother waste away in a hospital bed so quickly it made Jack’s head spin. Then Jack was left with a garage full of instruments he couldn’t bear to play and half-written songs he didn't know how to finish.
He's still close with his mom and Charlie, but there's been a... shift... in the air around the house. He's written some short poems, but nothing substantial, nothing like what he used to write with Race. Jack doesn't play the piano anymore. He doesn't sing in the car or the kitchen like he used to. He hasn't even so much as hummed since Race died. He can't. Every time he even considers making music all he can think about is Race using what little strength he had left to ask Jack to sing for him one last time. All he can see is his little brother taking his last breaths as Jack sang him a soft, desperate plea. ("You'll never know, dear, how much I love you. Oh, please don't take my sunshine away")
Jack doesn't want to sing anymore. He can't sing anymore. So he doesn't. He tries to pretend that he doesn't need music anymore and just goes on with his life as best he can. He cheers at Charlie's Buddy Ball games and helps his Ma cook dinner every night and bothers his Uncle Denton at work and laughs with his best friend, Spot, and does everything he can to ignore the gaping hole in his heart.
He doesn't need music. Not really. He doesn't even want to make music without Race there to do it with him.
Jack Kelly does not need music.
He doesn't.
Don't ask why he still signs up to be in the music program the next school year. Don't ask why he can't bear to sell his keyboard like he told Medda he was planning to. Don't ask why he's so so disappointed in himself when he can't bring himself to just play when he's told he has one last chance to participate in music class before he gets kicked out.
It doesn't matter.
David Jacobs
David loves music, it’s basically his entire life. He loves singing, he loves playing guitar, he loves writing songs, he loves everything about it. He lives and breathes music, he doesn't want to do anything with his life other than make music to share with the world. That's the whole problem.
His parents have always told him he has great "potential". That he's smart enough to get into the top universities in the country and to get a full-ride basically anywhere. All he has to do is focus on his studies and fill out his resume with extracurriculars and work experience. Apparently, spending every waking hour of the day writing songs and rehearsing with his band doesn't count as "extracurriculars" to them.
He knows they just want what's best for him, he knows they just want him to get into a good college and get a good job one day. He knows that. But he just wishes they would understand that music is what he's passionate about, it's what he loves, and it's the only thing that makes him feel truly alive. David knows he's smart, he knows he could probably go to some big-shot college and become a lawyer or a doctor or something but he doesn't want to. He wants to write songs and share them with the world. He wants to do something actually meaningful with his life.
It's... tense... at home, to say the least. His parents get mad every time he brings home any grade less than an A, which is becoming increasingly more common as Sunset Curve, the band Davey started with his twin sister, Sarah, and their two best friends, Albert and Bobby, has started gaining some real traction in Hollywood. (I think Bobby is still Bobby, it doesn't really change anything about the story so he might morph into one of the Delanceys at some point, I dunno) His mom keeps signing him up for after-school activities against his wishes and then gets upset when he blows off the meetings to rehearse with the band. His dad keeps trying to get him a job at the company he works for but Davey never sticks around long enough for him to set up an interview. He manages to pacify them a bit by volunteering as an assistant coach for his little brother, Les's, little league team, but it barely helps.
The last straw for David is the day his sister, Little Miss Perfect Sarah, who had always followed every single outrageous rule and expectation his parents gave her, manages to work up the courage to come out to their parents and they act like she just confessed to a murder. There's a lot of yelling and, for the first time in his life, David worries that his mother might hit Sarah, she looks so angry. His sister leaves the house with tears streaming down her face and David moves to follow her before realizing he would be leaving Les alone with his parents looking absolutely murderous. He doesn't think they would actually hurt Les, but he's not taking any chances.
As David sits in bed with his little brother curled up at his side and trying to block out the sound of his parents fighting with each other over whose "fault" this was, David finally accepts what he's always tried to deny.
His parents would never truly accept him. He'd always wondered if he just did what they wanted, if he just worked hard to keep his grade up and joined all the clubs they wanted and got into a good college and got a good job that they would be proud of him. He had convinced himself that they would, that he was choosing their disappointment by pursuing a career in music.
But now he knew better. If they could manage to go from looking at his sister as if she'd hung the stars in the sky to borderline disowning her in a split second, they could never truly love him. Their love was and always had been conditional, and David had no intentions of fulfilling those conditions just to be accepted by the people who had never even tried to understand him.
Sarah came back after spending a couple nights at the studio (aka, Bobby's garage) but it didn't change David's mind. His mother kept insulting Sarah every chance she got and his father wouldn't even look at her. The twins spent a lot of time writing songs together at the studio, avoiding their parents together. Sarah insists that she's okay, that she had expected their parents to react the way they did and she just wanted to wait out the storm until they hopefully came around. David sees straight through her lie but doesn't comment on it.
David isn't sure what does it. But one day he's finally had enough. He comes home with yet another B- on an English paper and endures the lecture from his father and the screaming from his mother with a blank stare and no emotion in his heart other than mild disgust. Then he goes to his room, packs as much as he can into a duffle bag, and heads straight to Sarah's room. She knows exactly what he's doing without a single word exchanged between them.
"So that's it, huh?" "Come with me." "Davey, I can't" "Sarah, they're never going to change! Never. I know you want to fix things with them but there's nothing to fix. They never loved us. Not really. Not in the way you want them to." "Don't you think I know that? I'm not stupid, Davey, I know this isn't the way things are supposed to be but it's the way things are. And I- I know it's pathetic but I want them to love me. I want my parents back. So... so I have to try, Davey, just let me try." "...Fine. You know where to find me once you've had enough of their bullshit." "What should I tell Les?" "I- I'll figure that out later. I'll skip class and catch him at school before he gets on the bus and say goodbye then. I just. I can't stay here another second."
So Davey leaves and hides out at the studio. He never manages to catch Les in time to talk to him but Sarah tells him plenty of stories about what's going on at home. It took his parents three days to realize he was gone. They weren't happy. Davey couldn't care less about their happiness.
His parents don't even try to get him to come home, which just reinforces Davey's certainty that he did the right thing. According to Sarah, they're "waiting him out", expecting him to come running back to them within a week.
Davey never sees his parents again.
He's not particularly bothered.
Davey spends all of his time writing songs about anything and everything. Some of it meaningless, most of it not. He's never been that great at talking to people, so he pours every pent-up emotion he's been feeling for years into his songs. His anger towards his parents, his pleas to his sister, his regrets about his brother, his desperation to make something of himself. He writes about all of it. Some of the songs make it onto Sunset Curve's setlist, but most of them stay in his song journal.
His grades don't get any better or worse, but Sunset Curve gets big. Or, at least, big for a garage band of self-taught high schoolers with about $12 between the four of them. They start booking bigger and bigger gigs and they even manage to pull some favors and scrape together enough cash to self-record an EP.
Then their big break comes. A featured show at the Orpheum! It's everything Davey and his friends have been working towards for years. It's their chance to make it big, for real. Davey thinks about inviting his parents so they can see that he wasn't delusional, that his dreams weren't just stupid fantasies. But he talks himself out of it almost instantly. He doesn't need to prove anything to them. He doesn't want to prove anything to them. They already showed him their true colors and Davey didn't regret his choices.
The only thing he regrets is that he had to leave Les. His little brother didn't do anything wrong and he was one of the only good things about living in that house. He misses Les every single day and considers going back just for him. Sarah tells him that Les didn't handle his running away well and she can only do so much for him. Their parents haven't been taking out their anger on Les, that's the only thing giving David enough strength to stay away.
He knows it's for the best, he genuinely would have lost his mind if he had to stay in that house any longer. That doesn't make him feel any better.
His songs about Les stay private.
Sarah Jacobs
Sarah likes music. She likes her drums, even if her mother would prefer for her to spend more time practicing piano. She likes helping her brother write songs for their band and goofing off with her friends in the studio. But what she really loves is performing. There's just something about being on a stage in front of a crowd of people, buzzing with energy and knowing that she's about to blow them all away. It makes her feel absolutely electric and leaves no doubt in her mind that this is what she wants to do with the rest of her life.
If only she could muster up the courage to tell her parents that.
She admired Davey for how little he managed to care about what their parents thought. Maybe he just had a passion for music that Sarah lacked. Maybe there was more pressure on him to succeed, therefore it was easier for him to disappoint, and therefore it was easier for him to stop caring in the first place. Maybe she was just a coward.
As much as she knew that it shouldn't matter what her parents thought, as much as she knew she would be better off taking a page out of her brother's book and just doing what made her happy, as much as she knew she had what it took to succeed in music, Sarah wanted nothing more than for her parents to be proud of her. And that meant keeping her grades above a B, staying in ballet classes, going to a good college, and getting a "real" job.
Sarah hated herself for how well she played the role of Perfect Daughter. She hated how easily she slipped into the pleasant, kind, soft-spoken little girl her parents had raised her to be. She hated how she kept her head down whenever her parents ripped into David for whatever way he'd managed to disappoint them this time. She hated how no one knew who she really was, not even herself.
She wanted to be able to listen to the kind of music she liked and not be scolded for it. She wanted to wear clothes that felt like her and not like she was dressing up in a costume as someone else. She wanted to do and love and enjoy the things that she wanted to do and love and enjoy. She so was sick of pretending to be someone she wasn't. She wanted it to stop. Sarah Jacobs wanted to be herself more than anything else in the world.
Maybe that's why she did it.
Maybe that's why she had looked her mother in the eye and managed to gather up enough courage to be honest with herself for once in her life.
She wasn't sure what she had been expecting.
She knew what she had wanted. She had wanted her mother to prove her wrong. To look at her with the same amount of love and adoration she always had and to tell Sarah that she loved her no matter what she did, no matter who she loved.
Sarah isn't surprised to find herself sobbing alone, curled up on the couch in the studio after listening to two people who were supposed to love her unconditionally call her the vilest names in the English language.
And it hurts. It hurts so so much. She had always known, deep down inside, that her parents would never accept her for who she was. That was why she had always hidden her true self so deep down that even Sarah herself didn't know what her true colors were.
She had always known what would happen when she finally revealed those colors.
But knowing you're about to be stabbed doesn't make it hurt less. It doesn't stop the knife from piercing straight through your chest, making it impossible to breathe through the pain. It doesn't stop you from feeling the blade twisting inside your heart, destroying every last shred of hope.
She goes back home. David tells her to stay at the studio, that he'll take care of her there and that it'll be easier, in the long run, to cut their parents off then and there. She knows he's right. But she can't help but want her parents to love her again. If they had ever truly loved her to begin with.
So she goes back, she endures the anger and the hatred, she watches her brother leave her to pick up the broken pieces of their family all alone, she lets her parents blame her for David leaving, she lets Les scream that he hates her for not stopping him, and she lets him come back an hour later to sob through his apology.
She lets it happen.
And her parents stop screaming at her every time she walks by, resorting to ignoring her as if that meant she didn't exist. And Les stops begging her to convince David to come home, deciding he hates his older brother for leaving him and crying into David's pillow when he thinsk she wasn't looking. And Sarah plays her role of the perfect daughter when they're out in public, resisting the urge to flinch every time her mother puts an arm around her waist with a fake smile plastered on her face.
She had revealed one of her true colors and it had ruined everything.
She didn't regret it for a second.
Charlie Morris
Charlie is ten years old. That doesn't make him stupid. He understands what's going on around him, no matter how hard his mama and his older brothers try to hide just how bad things are. He knows why Medda is constantly working overtime, but makes sure it's only at night so she can spend every possible second at home with her boys. He knows why Jack looks so sad and lost all the time and why he can hardly bear to let his little brothers out of his sight for longer than a few minutes. He knows why Race isn't going to school anymore and why he doesn't help out at Charlie's Buddy Ball games like he used to and why he keeps waking up in the middle of the night with coughing fits so loud Charlie can't sleep through them even though their bedrooms are on opposite sides of the house.
He knows why Medda and Jack look so frantic when they can't get Charlie's big brother to stop coughing and just breathe and why Medda makes him and Jack stay in the other room when the ambulance comes and why Jack is holding onto him so tightly while they wait for Uncle Denton to arrive. He knows why the doctors and nurses keep giving him sad smiles while he sits in the hard, uncomfortable chair of the hospital waiting room and why his mama looks so sad when she tells him he has to say goodbye to his big brother and why Race looks so unbelievably tired as he manages to give Charlie a small smile.
He knows why Race doesn't say anything when Charlie lays down next to him and just wraps an arm around his shoulders, letting Charlie ramble about everything and nothing. He knows why Race rarely even opens his eyes over the next few days and why Jack stops driving him to school in the mornings. Instead, Uncle Denton picks him up and brings him to the hospital where Medda and Jack had spent the night. He knows why everyone looks so heartbroken when Race finally manages to stay awake long enough to talk and his only request is for Jack to sing to him.
He knows why his mama is hugging him tight to her chest, her tears soaking into his hair, as the steady beeping that was always running slowed to a stop. He knows why Jack breaks down into heartwrenching sobs as soon he finishes his song. He knows why Uncle Denton doesn't even say anything, he just pulls Jack into his arms and stares at Race. At his body.
Charlie knows why he's never going to see his big brother again. He knows why Jack won't even hum along to the radio anymore and he knows why Medda can't bear to touch anything in Race's room, even though there's dirty laundry on the floor and he knows she hates that. He knows why Uncle Denton keeps bringing homemade dinners over every single night and why he keeps smiling and joking as if nothing's wrong. He knows why his teachers don't seem mad when he doesn't have any of his homework done when he comes back to school two weeks later.
He knows what Medda and Jack mean when they sit him down and gently explain that Race had to "go away" to "be an angel". He knows that Jack can barely drag himself out of bed every morning and that Medda is struggling just to hold herself together as it is. He knows that they don't need him to be having a breakdown every time he feels like it (which is fairly often, if he's being honest). He knows that at least one person in his family needs to be okay.
So he tries his best to go back to normal, to tell Jack all about this day like he always does, even when he just wants his brother to hold him close and let him cry. Jack smiles every time, so Charlie thinks it's worth it. He tells his mama jokes and stories while she cooks dinner, even though he wants to tell her about how much he misses his brother and how angry he is that he had to go. Medda laughs at his jokes every time, and Charlie knows it's worth it.
Uncle Denton gets him a tablet for his eleventh birthday, and Charlie discovered pages upon pages of stories, information, and videos about ghosts and the afterlife. Charlie thinks a part of him knows that none of it is true, but come on, can you blame him for wishing there was a way to know Race was still out there somewhere?
That's all Charlie wants. He just wants his big brother back.
Les Jacobs
Les is ten years old. That doesn't make him stupid. He understands what's going on around him, no matter how hard his older siblings try to hide it from him. He knows that Davey and his parents are always one wrong look away from the next fight. He knows Sarah would do anything in the world to make their parents happy, even though they treat her like garbage. He knows that as soon as he's old enough for his parents to start setting expectations of him, he'll be going through the exact same things.
He knows that it wasn't Sarah's fault that Davey left, and he'll feel sick to his stomach for the rest of his life every time he thinks about the things he said to her when he was too angry and hurt to think straight.
He knows that Davey would have moved mountains for him, that he never would have left Les if he had any choice. But he still can't understand why he never even said goodbye. He can't understand why Davey never came back for him. He can't understand why Davey would leave him and Sarah to fend for themselves.
He can't decide which of his siblings is being braver, David for having the strength to get out while he still could, or Sarah for having the strength to stay and try to fix things. Either way, Les is glad to have her around and, years later, when he knows that those three months were the worst three months of his life, his biggest regret in the world is that he never took a break from his forced anger to tell Sarah how much he loved her.
His parents dismiss Sarah's invitation to the band's show with an air of annoyance and indifference, but Les couldn't be happier. Davey would be there. And as much as Les has been trying to hate his older brother for more-or-less abandoning him, he can't help but feel giddy at the prospect of seeing him again. Sarah arranges for him to ride to the show with Bobby's parents under the guise that Les is spending the night with a friend.
Les is giddy with excitement the whole week leading up to the show and, as Sarah tells him goodbye before she leaves a few hours early to run a soundcheck, Les barely even gives her a second look, too busy digging through his closet to find the matching shirt he and Davey had gotten on vacation the year before.
It's not until days later that he realizes that was the last time he saw his big sister alive.
He's not quite sure why Bobby's parents seem so worried when they arrive at the theatre. It's a bit empty outside but they are kinda early. He doesn't like how Mrs. Shaw squeezes his hand tighter while she speaks softly to the worker at the ticket booth with a mixture of shock and horror on her face. He can’t understand why Bobby is sitting alone backstage or why he bursts into tears the second he sees Les or why he can’t stop crying long enough to answer him when he asks “Where’s Davey?”
His parents don’t show up at the hospital for nearly four hours. No one can get ahold of them, apparently. Les isn’t sure where they could be. He doesn’t know what could possibly be more important.
Albert’s dad and brothers are around somewhere, Les saw them come in but they didn’t exactly exchange small talk.
Bobby and his parents are the ones to tell him what happened. Mrs. Shaw is the one to pull him in close and wrap him tight in her arms while he cries. Mr. Shaw is the one to hold his hand when they finally let him see his siblings after hours and hours of begging. Bobby is the one to hold him close when he runs out of tears and can’t bear to do anything else.
Les is ten years old. That doesn’t make him stupid. He knows that his parents are the reason Davey never came home. He knows his parents are the reason Sarah was so miserable all the time. He knows that maybe they couldn’t have done anything to stop what happened that night, but they sure as hell took away Les’ chance to say goodbye.
So when his parents finally show up having the audacity to look like they’d been crying, Les doesn’t run into his mother’s waiting arms when she calls out to him. He buries his head back in Bobby’s shoulder and ignores her, just like she ignored every desperate plea Sarah ever cried. He pulls away from his father’s uncharacteristically gentle touch and begins to walk away. And when his father tries to follow after him, like he never, ever did for Davey, Les yells at them to leave him alone, in the coldest voice he can muster.
He never quite remembers exactly what he said to them, but he knows it was all true. That they were the ones who drove Davey away, that they never once believed in him, that he was right to leave them, and that Les is surprised he stuck around for as long as he did. That they treated Sarah like she was nothing, less than nothing, that she had done everything for them, that all she had ever wanted was for them to love her. He tells them that his siblings died hating them and that he would die the same way.
He’s pretty sure Bobby’s parents stuttered out something about grief and Les not really meaning it but he did. And his parents knew he did. Because they knew he was right.
They could spend the rest of his childhood honoring his siblings and pretending they were heartbroken. They could keep trying to have a relationship with him and keep trying to “learn from their mistakes”. They could give Les the entire world and it wouldn’t change what they had done.
They had stolen something from Les that he could never get back, and he had no intentions of ever forgiving them for that.
Yeah so those are the only characters I've put a lot of thought into, so we're gonna do a rapid-fire version of the last four that are important to the plot. They'll all probably develop more as the AU goes on, and feel free to send an ask if one of them catches your eye!
Albert DaSilva
Listen, I love Reggie Peters with all my heart, he's probably my favorite character on the show. But I could not for the life of me figure out what to do with him in this AU. Jac suggested Albert be the third member of Sunset Curve and while I'm super excited to explore this version of the character, I have absolutely zero thoughts about his backstory.
Like, I guess I could do what I did with David and Sarah and just. combine his Newsies fanon backstory with his JATP counterpart's backstory, but I'm not 100% sure how to do that. He's definitely got some kind of daddy(?) issues 'cause I'm giving him Reggie's one-sided friendship with Ray/Medda
As of right now, Davey and Sarah are having a shared crisis, and Albert's just having fun hanging out with Medda and messing around with Charlie. He is simply vibing.
I told Jac that he would probably gain some trauma as the AU progressed and they responded, and I quote, "i cannot WAIT for this"
Send me an ask if you want Albert to get trauma and/or daddy issues.
Spot Conlon
Spot as Flynn is probably the best decision I have ever made in my entire life because they're such different characters but also they are exactly the same.
He’s doing all the same things that Flynn does, he tries to help Jack stay the music program, he gets mad when Jack lies to him about the band, he helps Jack get through the ups and downs of life, and he’s Jack’s #1 fan (he’ll accept being tied for first with Medda and Charlie)
It’s just. He’s also Spot. If you know what I mean. I don’t know how else to describe his role in the story, he’s Jack’s ride or die and that’s all there is to it.
Spot’s still a DJ I think, but I feel like he’s got a funny story for how he got into doing that. Or just how he ended up in the music program in general. Also, yes, during the I Got The Music scene, Jack does daydream Spot rapping. He’s very confused afterwards but I think it’s funny so it stays.
Joseph Pulitzer
He's taking on Caleb's role.
He's a creepy magician guy.
He manipulates his daughter.
He sucks.
That is all.
(I mean like I'll give him a backstory if you want but yeah, his main character trait is: sucks)
Katherine Pulitzer
Katherine my beloved!!!!
Okay so her backstory is incredibly involved with Pulitzer's (duh) so I guess this is kind of like a 2-for-1 type thing here.
Anywho, Katherine and her father were a double act together performing magic! I'm thinking around the 1970s or 1980s ish. She enjoyed performing but she wasn't a fan of her dad. He didn't really care about her, he just cared about how he could use her to make his show better.
She's only seventeen, so she doesn't really have a choice, but she's been making plans to get away from him the second she can, and then... well... she's not really sure. She's going to start out performing on her own, just to make enough money to keep a roof over her head, and then she'll figure it out from there. Maybe she'll find something she's actually passionate about. Maybe she'll be a performer for the rest of her life.
Katherine doesn't care. All she cares about is getting away and making something of herself. She doesn't care what she ends up doing with her life as long as it's something she can call hers.
Yeah so then a few months before her 18th birthday, one of her father's magic acts goes horribly, horribly wrong and that's the end of her story.
And then she becomes a ghost.
And now she's stuck under her father's thumb for the rest of eternity.
If only someone would come along and help her learn that she doesn't have to let her father define her and that she does have the power to stand up to him and take him down. And if only that someone was also very smart and funny and pretty and was a drummer in a 1995 rock band and was also struggling with figuring out who she was without her parents around to tell her....
IF ONLY
So yeah! That's more or less everything I have for this AU so far! I do have some ideas in mind for different scenes and overarching plotlines, so please please do drop an ask if you want to hear more! Ideas include but are not limited to:
Unsaid Emily scene but with Les! (I have a song in mind :D)
Wake Up scene but with Jack!
Les growing up and having to watch his siblings' best friend getting famous off the songs he stole from them (see it's even Worse because most of the songs are about his family because Davey wrote all of them)
Jack and Charlie having a nice little heart-to-heart about grief and such (it is criminal that we never got a scene between Julie and Carlos talking about how his obsession with ghosts and the supernatural was his way of coping with his mother's death)
Sarah and Katherine meeting for the first time
Albert telling Jack about Les (That scene from episode 5 where Julie calls Luke selfish and Alex+Reggie tell her about his mom)
Sarah running off to the studio after coming out to her parents (I have an idea for this scene that involves Albert! Mans gets to actually do things!)
Once again, huge thanks to Jac for their help with this AU and I hope y'all like it! I have spent two days writing this post instead of working on a paper that's due in 2.5 hours! Haha send help :D
#ghost au 2: electric bungaloo#cw death#because ghosts#anyways yeah absolutely send me an ask if you want to hear more about anything in particular my brain is absolutely vibrating#I know Jack is supposed to be the main character but i planned this au with jac so it’s not my fault that davey is the most fleshed out#newsies#newsies au#newsies fanfiction#livesies#newsies live#jack kelly#davey jacobs#sarah jacobs#javid#newsbians#jac tag#saf's jatp au#saf's fic concepts#saf writes#julie and the phantoms au#julie and the phantoms
everything I know about critical role campaign 2 (I have not watched it)
hi! I'm a new Critter who as of now has not watched any of campaign 2 aside from random clips in compilations and shit, but thanks to The Internet and also my friends, I know some things now. so before I start watching c2, here is all the stuff I know about it!!
I realized I knew a lot less about c1 than I thought (post here), but I definitely have more c2 knowledge so let's go
here there be spoilers!!! for the whole campaign!!! are they all CORRECT spoilers? probably not. but I do not know! be careful!
player characters
Jester Lavorre is my beloved and she’s played by Laura Bailey. she’s a blue tiefling cleric who worships a god called the Traveler, who I think is just a dude in a cloak who started a cult. I thought she was like 12 but apparently she’s actually an adult, weird. she does sendings that are very funny, and I mimic her horribly every single day bc her voice fills me w joy. she’s from Nicodranus (do I know what or where that is? nope!) she's rich but had a shitty family, and her mom is apparently the best lay ever? not sure what that's about. also I think her spiritual weapon is some sort of baked good bc she really likes them?
Beauregard Lionett, Marisha's character, is the definition of hot monk shit. she is gay and sexy and buff and represses emotions like no one's business. despite my deep love for her, I actually know very little about her backstory or literally anything she does. I do know the important thing though, which is Lesbian.
Yasha Nydoorin is Ashley's character and she's a fallen aasimar barbarian. I pronounce her last name like the Pokemon Nidoran because I have no clue how it's supposed to be. she wears badass makeup but it also might be tattoos or just her skin patterning? also she has skeletal wings sometimes but then through the Power of Love they heal. and she's very buff. she is in loooove with Beau and very shy and awkward. OH she has a dead wife who someone killed because homophobia or something, and she really likes flowers and doesn't know where her wife is buried so she can't bring her flowers :'(
Mollymauk Last Name Here is a funky purple tiefling, Taliesin's first character. he has cool ass clothing and he is so gay. magic??? he is flamboyant and maybe a fuckboi and then he dies in like episode 20. rip. he's friends with Yasha and I think was in a circus.
Caduceus Clay is Taliesin's second character. he's a pink firbolg and he likes tea and I want him to hug me. he worships... somebody... because he's a cleric and heals people. I think he's aroace confirmed? "help, it's again" is the only scene I've seen with him in it.
Caleb Widogast (?) is Liam's human wizard and his last name sounds like a Pokemon. my roommate is obsessed with this man, which makes sense because he is an angsty gay guy. German, apparently doesn’t eat? I am worried for him. he has a cat named Frumpkin and a boyfriend named Essek eventually. he has fire magic and killed his whole family. rip. OH ALSO he grew up in the Empire and was part of a gay polycule???
Nott the Brave/ Veth is Sam's character, and she's a goblin. I do not know if she's 7 years old or a mother, but it's one of those two. also I think she was a different race originally but got turned into a goblin and also hates goblins and also is an alcoholic. sure.
Keg (is that really her name?) is a guest character. she’s a dwarf? and a lesbian and has the hots for Beau. mood.
Fjord ??? I straight up forgot about this man. he's a green guy played by Travis, maybe a half-orc? and he's a pirate. warlock. does he have a last name??
non player characters
Essek is Caleb’s boyyyyfriend and he’s a purple drow. I think he starts off bad and betrays the party but over time becomes good or something. he can float and is hot!
Zuala I don't think actually shows up but she's Yasha's dead wife. [sobs forever]
Marion Lavorre is Jester's mom and she's a red tiefling who I'm pretty sure is a prostitute?
The Gentleman is apparently Jester's DAD and every time they sent him a message, I thought they were speaking to multiple gentlemen but it turns out it's just one.
Astrid I-don't-know-her-last-name is connected to Caleb somehow. I think she's also a wizard and has tattoos but I know nothing else
plot points
Jester almost gets her hands cut off, but then she persuades the hand-cutter to eat a blueberry cupcake and then casts Modify Memory and avoids getting her hands cut off
Keg and Beau have sex
Jester helps Yasha write a poem for Beau and I have the whole thing memorized
at one point, Fjord, Jester and Yasha got kidnapped but it was because their respective cast members were all gone. I think this is when Keg came in to help the rest of the party find them
clearly I have a very good grasp on the plot of this show /s
that's all folks! vox machina post here :)
Jack as a DM
I have a lot of feelings about D&D these days. Likely because I've play every other week, and it's just become super important to me. So, of course, I tend to wonder what my favorite characters in stories would be like if they played D&D. And Jack as a DM, I dunno. I feel rusty with headcanons for him, so here's me dipping my toes back into it. Lemme know what your thoughts on him DMing or other Check Please characters :D
• His first session is a little rough. • He had planned out so much, the details of it was incredible. He combed through his player's character's backstories and left little hints and breadcrumbs. But the players went off somewhere he hadn't intended, and while he was able to respond by the seat of his pants (thanks to extensive world-building) he felt stressed by it. Enough so that he wasn't sure he should DM anymore. • But his players kept telling him how much fun they had, so he gave it another go. • Jack is the type to prep hard for his games. He spends hours before each sessions doing his best to make the world and game fun for his players. After the first session, he tries to guess what weird paths his players might go down, and he works on those. He knows he can't predict everything and honestly the longer he plays with his friends, the less he wants to be able to predict everything but for his peace of mind, he still tries to have plans for the different things his players might choose. Lots of plans. So many plans. It is kind of exhausting to think about. • Jack can't do voices. He has tried on a few occasions, but even among his closest friends it makes him feel embarrassed. He will lean into his accent for a lot of his NPCs, but that is the extent. He can paint the differences between NPCs with his words and descriptions. • He has a game he plays in his head, or more accurately a little private wager, over which newly introduced NPC his players will fall in love with and want to adopt. • Bitty's character had the slowest of burn romances with an NPC of Jack's. These two characters were more oblivious about their feelings than Jack and Bitty were OR ALTERNATIVELY: the NPC and Bitty's character got together first, and everyone at the table was just waiting for the other foot to drop. Waiting for those pining idiots to realize half of what their characters said to each other is probably what Bits and Jack needed to say to each other themselves lol • Jack really likes having props and such on the table. Tactile things his players can touch and hold. He does a lot of it himself, but he also outsources bits to his players: • One time he had Bitty bake a pie, so his players could taste what their characters were eating • Another time he had Shitty write up contracts for the characters to sign. • Lardo has helped with maps and portraits. • Nursey has helped compose poems and songs for sessions • Holster and Ransom have spreadsheets about the adventure that Jack will check and reference. • When Jack is having a rough day nothing calms him down quite as well as painting minis. • When Jack first started he tried writing his own notes during sessions but that got too tricky. With his friend's permission, he began recording the sessions and then he watches them later and writes down moments that feel important. • Bitty volunteered his camera for this, and of course, helps Jack set up before every session (it became a thing for them. Such flirting). • One year for his birthday the whole table surprised him by having someone else DM for a few sessions. Bitty DMed. And it wasn't a complete surprise, they gave Jack a two week notice to make a character, and he loved it. He loves DMing but he worried he would always be the DM. After that, every few sessions, someone else takes a turn at DMing. New stories and games are explored, and is fun. • Jack loves history, and he borrows from history, to make some for the game. He loves making historic events, and going into detail about it. He makes documents about historical events in their world. He can recite a lot of them from memory. • The world they play in is precious to Jack, and to all his players. He loves how much it has grown and changed BECAUSE of his friends and the adventures their characters get into. It's a long campaign, spanning years and years. Even when they do one-shots or take breaks from the main story, the playground they usually play in, is the one in the world Jack first created. • They try their
best to play in person, but as they have all moved out of the house, and gotten jobs it is difficult. Especially during the hockey season. So, they play over discord more often than not these days.  Jack has definitely run games for the Falconers • Jack has Hostler and Ransom help him with homebrew classes because they are so much better at balancing the stats than him, and they know how to put his vision into something that will actually work. • Dex has helped build some epic maps with Lardo, that have like moving pieces and mechanics involved. • Around Halloween they all dress up as their characters if they manage to get a session in. • Characters and players have come and gone, and Jack and everyone does their best to honor people of the past while also welcoming in new people. • There has been much laughter, tears, chaos, and shenanigans in these games and Jack loves it. It's another way for him to see his friends and love them. He didn't think D&D would morph into something so important to him, but it did.
Hello! I'd like to request a creepypasta natchup if those are still open! If not, then feel free to ignore this.
I'm 5'6, slightly tan but could still be considered pale. My eyes change color randomly throughout the day, switching between blue, green, grey, or some mixture of those. The only thing consistent about myveye color is that it's always fully grey after I've been crying, though it can so just be grey from pure chance. I have a little bit of noticeable fat around my stomach, and my thighs are thick. My hair is a platinum blonde pixie cut, though it's been a while since I've got it done so it's a bit long and my roots (brown) are showing. I constantly wear glasses, since I can't see more than a couple inches without them, and I don't have a defined clothing style, instead I choose to switch between different types of styles depending on how I'm feeling. I'm AFAB genderfluid, and my pronouns tend to change, though I wear a color changing sequin bracelet to show what pronouns I'm using, pink for he/him, silver for she/her, half of each for they/them, and stripes for "ask for pronouns".
I don't get dysphoria a lot, but when I do it hits really hard and I get very self conscious. Though I read on get dysphoria on masculine man days (usually I still feel feminine when a guy)
My personality tends to change depending on who I'm around or what the situation is. I don't intend for this to happen, it just happens. Though when I'm around someone long enough, they get to see everything, though I admit it can still be contradictory at times. Am example of this is that I don't like being in a room with a lot of people at once, and tend to try to find an area with less people in it. But despite that I absolutely love getting on a stage and performing (I do theatre). I also like to just be quiet and just listen to the conversation (albeit while not not fully kept out of the conversation), but I also like to just go on talking for 30 minutes to even a couple hours at a time. I try to be there for my friends and do whatever I can for them when they need help. Though one thing is certain, I swear a LOT when I'm not careful about it.
As for my interests, I absolutely adore plays and musicals, and just music in general. I don't have a specific taste in music. I listen to pretty much anything from rock to pop to country. Pretty just anything if the vibes are good. Some of my favorite bands are Five Finger Death Punch, Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, Set it Off, and Icon For Hire. My favorite musicals are Hamilton, The Dolls of New Albion, and Phantom of the Opera, though I also very much enjoy any Starkid musicals. While listening to music, I tend to quietly or loudly (no in between) zing along, though whenever someone walks into the room I very quickly shut up. I also enjoy playing video games, and some of my favorites are Minecraft, Terraria, Pokémon, and Legend of Zelda (I know those are popular ones, but hey, they're popular for a reason). Though even with video games, I so enjoy sitting down for a (not so calm) board game (I get more competitive with board/card games somehow). I also enjoy baking, and actually recently found out how to make candied orange slices for decorations (they're sooo good). I'm also trying to get more into regular cooking as well, but that's not going as well as the baking is. And even with the baking, even though what I make tastes good, it's rarely ever pretty (my cakes end up cracking a lot). Overall though, I'm trying to pick up many skills so I can become a jack of all trades.
One big thing though is I play d&d. Like, a lot. I'm involved in four different biweekly campaigns (I'm actually running two of them). I also have a small dice hoard, and I have a bad habit of making full characters that I'll probably never get around to playing. Though this does lead to me writing a lot. Mainly backstories or lore.
My sexuality is asexual, though I'm panromantic. Though I'm ace, I'm still right with having sex, though just can't be very often. A big thing about me is that I'm polyamorous. If someone isn't alright with that, it's a hard no from me. Of course I'm also right with whoever I'm with also being poly. I don't set many rules for a relationship, just be honest and communicate openly, and don't date anyone who doesn't make you happy. I'm not too big on having rules on who I'm "allowed" to date, so I won't put restrictions on my partner(s). Don't worry though, even with being poly, I still get very attached to my partners. In fact, I can even get clingy.
My love language is definitely touch. Physical affection just makes my brain go brrr-
Though I also like using pet names, and definitely don't mind being called any.
My zodiac sign is Cancer (though I don't go based on astrology), and my MBTI type is INTP (assuming that's important).
If this is too much or not enough information, I am so sorry. And I'm sorry if this isn't very well organized. If you end up doing this, I will be so happy! Thank you for taking the time to read this, I really appreciate it!
Thank You!!! This is enough information, you sound like a really cool person :) , anyways I match you with Homicidal Liu and Bloody Painter!! I was also gonna match you up with Ben Drowned because you mention video games but I didn't if you wanted him you can tell me :)
I match you up with Homicidal Liu
-He wants you to crush him with your thighs
-He also listens to any type of music (and is very open minded about your music and will give it a try to listen to your music)
-He would buy tickets to take you to a musical
-He would always be honest, loyal to you, will always communicate with you and always will start many conversations with you on many different topics while laying down in your bed before going to sleep
-He likes theatre
-He doesn't care if you swear (he swears too if he messes up on his painting)
-For dates he takes you to musicals
-He is very honest and barley opens up to people
-Will always communicate with you
-He likes your baking and will help you with it, when you show him something you bake he will give you the longest hug
Hope you like your match up!!! (^O^)
hello my dear hope you're doing well :) what about 7-11 for the oc asks?
I'm doing well, thank you love!
I've put my other answers under a cut, as I ended up going on a bit
7. Have you learned or realized something about yourself from writing this character?
I'd say the one big thing I've taken from writing these fics is quite broad, which is I absolutely love writing historical fiction. Camille and Valerie are both so much fun and figuring out ways to flesh out their backstories and experiences in accordance with the time period has been such a blast.
8. Can canon characters become OCs?
In my own experiences, I would say sometimes! Especially in a show like Band of Brothers, so many of the characters I'm anxious to include have very little screentime and established personality to work with that it's almost impossible to write them without putting in my own take on the characters
9. Which canon characters does your OC get along with? Like, they’d take a cup of coffee if he offered? If that character were describing yours, how would they be described?
Camille - Her best friend is and always will be George Luz! They're a rather unlikely pairing, but he helps her laugh and she keeps him grounded and out of trouble. She also has a very teasing friendship with Buck, whom she knows has always got her back
Valerie - Lipton, Grant and Pat are really the only three Easy Company boys aside from Ron that Val has a genuine friendship with. I would say Lipton is her closest friend of the three, because not only was he a gentle and kind presence when she was settling in, but he sort of acts like a bridge between her and Speirs too.
10. Characters are often a product of their environments. Talk about a place that was very formative for your character - or, if you’re feeling brave, write a short paragraph describing that place or having your character talk about it to another character.
Camille
Her mother's apartment had been the backdrop for her youth - dimly lit rooms carpeted in a deep red, littered with various stains that had barely faded over time, tall windows draped with silk curtains, and dark wood furniture scattered atop with trinkets, battered books, and unwashed teacups from the day before. On the good days, the apartment smelled of floral perfume and mid-range champagne. On the bad, of formaldehyde and the taxidermied animals in Verity's study that had baked in the sun when she neglected to close the curtains on a particularly sunny afternoon. When Camille had run about the place with her brothers as a child, the narrow hallway gad echoed with tiny footfalls upon aged boards, and not a step could be taken in the whole place without eliciting a mighty creak.
Valerie
The lecture hall in which Valerie had first met Leo - the man whose death would eventually send her life spiralling beyond all recognition - had been all at once intimidating to behold and yet her favourite room she'd ever stepped foot into. The room was wide and long, the lower walls covered with polished wood panels, above which were tall windows in thick frames that cast a warm glow of sunlight upon her scribbled notes. The ceiling rose high above her, its white stone engraved precisely with flowers around the edges. Above the desk at the front of the room, stationed squarely between two doors, was a well-used green chalkboard, the corners of which always held remnants of classes gone by, half words and fragments of numbers narrowly missed by lazy erasers. Valerie always remembered the room as making her feel intelligent, accomplished - when she was within its confines, she was no longer a naive little heiress, but a woman of her own divine calibre.
11. Your OC is feeling a big emotion. Describe what they do physically and let us see if we can guess what that emotion is.
Camille - Her vision blurs, her hands begin to tremble, and her heartbeat hammers out of her chest. Camille is momentarily frozen in time, unable to move a muscle save from the tremors that seem to shake her body uncontrollably.
Valerie - Whatever she was in the middle of doing, she stops. Whether she drops whatever was in her hand at that moment is out of her control. Her eyes appear as if they are looking right through what's in front of her, and her brow begins to rise as a smile creases her cheeks and a laugh escapes her throat.
this is mostly mostly based on my memories from watching dw like five years ago, so here's my half-baked opinion: River's backstory was just.. weird and kind of shoe-horned in. I've really liked what i've seen 12, but I could just never get into 11. His characterization seemed.. inconsistent? it just seemed like he'd be all happy and goofy for most of the episode and then he'd get angry and yell smth during the climax and everything would magically work out. And Rory got treated like shit.
I always took 11′s personality as trying to like 1) Make Up for how he was as 10 and somewhat 9, you know like 10 was broody and angry, so 11 wanted to overcompensate and be happy! 10 would be pleasantly surprised when he found something beautiful in the universe, so 11 made sure he thought EVERYTHING in the universe was beautiful, stuff like that. Or like...9 ran away with Rose knowing she was dating Mickey and was a dick to Mickey whenever they met up, so when 11 found out Amy was engaged he was like nope! I’m not ruining any more relationships! And brought Rory along and while they weren’t best friends he always tried to be nice to Rory. Or you know, Rose and Martha both lived with him full time and it put a strain on their relationships with their family- so 11 bought Amy and Rory a house and stretched out their visits, and only took Clara traveling once a week. 10 was a dick to Martha and Jack, but 11 goes out of his way to make sure the Ponds know how much he loves and appreciates them. 10 said he’d never settle down or have a family again, 11 gets married and attends family Christmas dinners and lives in the Pond’s home for over a year without traveling at all.
But I also always took his personality as 2) he’s...trying his best to heal from the time war. He knows the defining traits that he didn’t like about himself in his last regeneration were all brought on by trauma. I think he was just kinda doing the whole ‘tell yourself you’re happy enough times and eventually you WILL be’ thing, you know? If he can convince everyone else he’s fine he’ll eventually be able to convince himself, and that’ll help him move on from the war. But that doesn’t always work, obviously, so of course his anger is still going to bubble back up at points.
11 was defined as ‘The Man That Forgets’, because 9 and 10 wanted to hold onto the anger and the pain and the guilt, and drown in it because they felt like they deserved to. 11 was a tired old man who wanted to move forward from it all, he didn’t want to lay awake at night counting the names of all the dead gallifreyan children, he just wanted to feel hopeful and happy again. He found a family and was trying to build a new life for himself (which is why his reaction to the Pond’s deaths was so severe). He was just as sad and angry as the others but he just didn’t want anyone, even himself, to acknowledge it.
As for River- I definitely think they could have dragged her storyline out a little more before the reveal, should’ve introduced Mels way earlier, but overall I didn’t hate her story. She’s one of my favorite characters though so that might just be me being biased. But like, I see enough of Amy and Rory’s character traits in her that it didn’t seem completely blindsighting that she was their daughter, and I do think they could’ve done better expanding on how everyone was coping after it was set that they couldn’t get baby Melody back, but...I still liked the story idk.
and Rory Williams is my Favorite and I wish him getting killed didn’t become a running gag rip
